Is 2009 the worst football season ever?
Is this the worst NFL season of all time?
READ MORE:
NFL
Rumors and Rants has an interesting article today that asks a question that I think we've all thought about a bit: Is this the worst NFL season ever?

I mean, there's plenty to suggest it is. There are more bad teams than I've ever seen. The Lions are still dreadful. The Rams had lost 16 straight games before beating the Lions last week. The Cleveland Browns are a nightmare, just like the Raiders. And the Bucs are still winless. Not to mention the Chiefs are hideous, and we're now starting to see betting lines we've never seen before in the NFL's history. It's like lines for college games.

And there's only one truly dominant team in the NFL right now: The Saints. No, I'm not counting the Colts.

I mean, it sure does look like this is the worst NFL season ever. What do you think?

Any season in which both JaMarcus Russell AND Derek Anderson are starting QB's in the NFL, absolutely HAS to be the worst NFL season ever.  I mean come on, you can add up both of their QB ratings and it still wouldn't even be able to touch Forrest Gump's IQ.

2009 is definitely the worst season ever. Never in my 43 years( going on 44) of my life, that I've seen this many bad football teams. My one solution: DRAFT BETTER PLAYERS!!!

Ok let us know when the Steelers do to. As it stands right now both the Steelers and the Saints each have only played one team that is leading a division and they both won. So right now you could say the same thing about the Steelers.

I'm a Lions fan so every year is the worst year in the NFL for me.

Corollary to that: don't pay rookies so much, and make it worth their while to do 4 years in college

there was worse teams in the early 70's that there is today. In 1970 there were 6 10 loss teams out of 26 total teams. (Back then they only payed 14 games). From 1971 thru 1973 there were 2 teams that went 1-13 consecutively (Oilers 72-73 and the OJ led Bills in 71). The difference is that with todays 24/7 news cycle its more pronounced. The football is just the same, if anything the product is more even, but this season has seen the most crap teams than the NFL has had in over 25 years in one season

So what are we suppose to do with the bad teams we play? Blow them out? I think so. Who Dat!

Coming into 2008 the Saints had the 8th toughest projected schedule. It's not our fault the Panthers, Deadskins, Bucs all ended up being dreadful. We beat down the Giants and Eagles, and beat the Falcons, Dolphins, Jets. Plus you better worry about your own business. Steelers lost to Cincy already.

The Saints remind me of the "greatest show on turf" Rams from 1999.   It will be interesting to see if they can finish the deal.

Worst season ever?  LOL

Something's not right about this season.  Blame it on the economy or something, but the bad teams definitely taint the good teams in 2009.

Depending on his 40-time, Al Davis would probably draft him though.  And if so, he would immediately raise the collective IQ of the "Dumbest Team in America."

For some of us, more than others.

The worst season?  Not for me.  I'm loving 7-1 and looking good in the NFC!  The only things that make it bad is the loss to the Steelers (and that wasn't that bad) and the 'Aints not losing a game yet.  They'll lose eventually, so that'll take care of that.

If this isn't the worst, it's in the conversation.  Usually you look like an idiot a few times a week, because the "bad" teams will beat a team they shouldn't have.  Not this year.  In 2009, bad is bad.

I don't see it being the worst season, this season has been full of great games "unknown" players making names for themselves, new offenses, great plays ect. So no its just be the NFL at its best.

I was thinking the same thing. That indeed this season is horrendous. Not taking anything away from the Saints, the Monday night game is just what the Doctor ordered. That was great football.

Run, Derek, Run! No! Not that way! That's James Harrison! Turn around! D'oh! Don't run into Joe Thomas! What the hell? Brady Quinn? You're not supposed to run into him! Gosh. We need that one chick to motivate you. Maybe you should've gone to Alabama! It's average IQ would've made you feel at home!

when the crop of young players coming through the league are so full of themselves and it seems no one can or wont want to see it till he is sign to a multimillion dollar contract and goes out in one game and show how much of a butthead he is by making bad decisions or arguing witht teammates or getting huirt and no contributing to the good of the team and go to waste.............................no self respect is taught in this country anymore..................

Actually the Stealers played the division leading Bengals and they lost.

SAINTS, COLTS, STEELERS, VIKINGS, RAVENS, BRONCOS, PATRIOTS, FALCONS, BENGALS, EAGLES, COWBOYS, DOLPHINS, PACKERS,GIANTS, JETS..... OUT OF THESE TEAMS WILL THE PLAYOFFS COME AND IT SHOULD BE PRETTY GOOD BY THE TIME THIS GETS TO UNRAVEL....MY PREDICTION IS GOING TO BE THE VIKINGS VS STEELERS IN THE SB..... JUST BECAUSE OF DEFENSE!

Bold prediction, taking your own team...Saints and Colts would be a great game, they both have good defenses to go with high powered offenses.  Not sure the rest of us could stand to see the Stealers go again.

You people that are "fresh" to having losing seasons.... Don't worry about it. Being born and raised in Cleveland you tend to get used to your home team (goes for almost all our sports) losing year, after year, after year, after year.  But dont worry about it, if your team owner is smart, like Cleveland's was, you will get all new coaches and all new players every year and you will spend millions of dollars and 10, 15, 20 years "rebuilding" . ( And people wonder why I have always rooted for the Steelers?)

Worst NFL season ever if you're a fan of any of these teams! Ha ha I know how you feel, being a Cardinals fan for so long and having 2 successful seasons. Every one of the teams listed has a new coach, a losing record at this point can be expected.

The line beween bad and good is definitely a lot bigger than it has been in a long time, that is for sure.

Bad management and changing head coaches every couple years is a big part of the problem. Just look at the worst teams in the league! All have new or second-year HC. Because teams feel the need to change coaches so often, the number of deer-in-the-headlights new HCs seem to be increasing.

Ask Brett Favre about the work ethic of young players today and the young players when he was a rookie and I'll bet it's like night and day.  When you pay players so much money up front, there are no incentives to work hard and get better.
