The Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessy is not above appropriating another team or player to satisfy his own fanboy needs. In this case, the team is the Phillies and the player, Pedro Martinez.
Pedro has been dishing some quotes about doing it for the Boston fans and Shaughnessy is glad to serve them up. Of course, the questions that occasioned those quotes came from a Boston writer (cough) and don't really change much as far as fans are concerned. Of course, we want the Yankees to lose. Of course, we will root for Pedro to beat them in Game 6. Though, to be fair, Red Sox fans would probably root for Hitler to beat the Yankees, so this hardly puts Pedro in select company.
Interestingly, most die-hard Sox fans remember how in April of 2004 Shaughnessy ripped Pedro for leaving a game early during a loss just a few years after praising Roger Clemens for doing the exact same thing. I guess it's all good again...So long a Pedro doesn't pull Cole Hamels and talk about wishing it were all over. That wouldn't be very dirt dog of him.
