Is there a chance Barry Bonds doesn't break Hank Aaron's home run record this season?

BP's Unfiltered says it's 8.5%. So you're telling me there's a chance ...

We have all dreams. Some are truly important, life changing types. Run a marathon. Fancy job, home in the 'burbs, what have you. For others, like me, you wish for Barry to somehow slip up on the way to the home run title.

After his impressive April, I decided to confront the fact he'd like break the record sometime right about now actually. "Let's just get this over with."

But now Bonds is hampered by shin splints and has only hit one home run since May 9th. News like that is music to a Bonds-haters ears. Despite the fact he's clearly struggling and injured, he insisted he's playing
"I won't go on the DL," Bonds said. "Don't count on seeing me on the DL -- ever. I won't let myself. I will work hard. I will play through it."
So much for that wishful thinking, but this recent slump does have me considering the possibility, while slim, that he doesn't break the record this season. A baseball fan can dream.

Then again, the way my sports fandom goes ... he's likely to break the record here at Wrigley during the July 16th-19th series in my presence. Wouldn't that just be something.

If you don't want Bonds to break the record then you actually have to like that quote. He's saying even if he's hurt he won't take time off to heal properly which will just make him more of a detriment to his team and hi chance to break the record. I hope if he has injury issues he'd acutally go on the DL to get better. It would give him a better shot at going back to his early season success which is better for his team (which should be more important than the record.) Besides hasn't he said he wants to play next year already? If so, the record is his, so he should try to stay healthy for his team.

The Giants biggest fear this year was that Bonds wouldn't break the record and that he would hold off until next year (and another big contract).
