It looks like a lot of Red Sox players were glad to see Manny get traded. I can't blame them.

+2 thumbs upBaseball, be it amateur or professional; litlle, minor or major league, is still a nine-man team sport.  No one person could claim he can win baseball games by himself. Much less championships. No matter how talented you are if you keep distracting your teammates from performing well, the team results are often disastrous.
Sure, Manny is flowing with hitting talent. But either he don't want to play for the Red Sox or he thinks he can win a championship by himself that he is irreplaceable. He forgets that he has limited fielding skills, he has teammates who need to work together to win games, a manager who shuffles line-ups to provide the best results, an organization who is willing to pay players who can win championships for them, and fans who pay tickets just to see their players play.
No matter how talented you are individually, you can't win all by your self.

+2 thumbs upSomeone explain the math for me.
Coming out of Boston, I hear the Red Sox are better off without him, and some say they wouldn't have been able to win if he stayed with the team.
Coming out of LA, now that Manny is there, the Dodgers are the favorites to win the NL West.

They both can't be right, can they? I have a feeling Arizona still wins the West.

I still think despite the distractions they are going to be hard pressed to replace his bat in the lineup.  The lineup is already top heavy as it is.

Big Papi hasn't been 100% for a while and I don't think you can replace Manny's success against the AL East or that he is the all time leader in post season HR's with an Outfielder from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

There is one thing everyone, in the media anyway, seems to be missing in this whole Manny saga.

He's not worth keeping if he's going to bench himself in the middle of a pennant race.

I keep hearing about how Boston was stupid to make this trade and he's a great hitter and so on, but the fact is he's not doing a whole lot of hitting if he's riding the pine with his latest "sore knee" or "I need a day off vs. the Yankees because I'm tired".

He quit on the Sox.  He's playing for his last big contract in Los Angeles.  Boras convinced him he was miserable in Boston and now they're both going to get paid.

+1 thumbs upI believe Boston didn't get the best they could get out of the deal, but on the same note, Manny will not help out LA. That my friends is a offense void where the players are like movie stars, showing off in face but afraid to do their own stunts
