Iverson debuts for the Grizzlies
Allen Iverson played in his first game for the Grizzlies last night...and issued his first complaint about his role.
Allen Iverson made his debut on the hardwood last night, coming off the bench to score 11 points in 17 minutes against the Sacramento Kings. The Answer reported his injured hamstring felt fine but that his derriere was ouchy:

"I had a problem with my butt from sitting on that bench so long. That's the only thing I got a problem with."

So, joining a team with a bunch of me-first shooters: O.J. Mayo, Zach "Black Hole" Randolph and Rudy Gay, Iverson is upset with his role? Well, it isn't going to get any easier for Iverson as I don't see him taking a ton of time from the face of the franchise, O.J. Mayo, or Mike Conley Jr., the only starter who is willing to pass before shooting. In other words, sports fan, sit back and enjoy the fireworks. And by fireworks, I mean trade demands that won't be met  until February, if then.

Perhaps they weren't listening, but I already told Grizzlies management what would happen with this:

Honestly, who would trade for Iverson at this point?

Come on, the only thing I read was that he wanted more playing time; what player in the NBA doesn't. I would not call that a complaint, just a message to the coach that he is ready to play. Why sign AI, if you are not going to play him?

Nobody, which is why he signed a 1 year free agent deal for one of the worst franchises in the NBA.

Who didnt see this coming from the minute he was signed. I am so glad Denver got Chauncey for him.

I can not argue the point that the MG's are the NBA's worst, but yet they signed him for a reason. Whether any one else wanted him or not, they did sign him to play him, not to sit. They could have signed someone else for much less to sit on the bench.

Well at least he wants to win.  If a team signs him for a 1 year deal, obviously they wanted him for something. Definitely not about money here, just a person that has a passion for basketball.

Just one question, Is anyone surprised. We all knew were ever he'd go he would complain.

Well at least he is getting plenty of practice

Iverson is the T.O. of basketball. He needs to retire and get back with his gang member friends and live the life he is used to living. Its over for him. He will never win a championship and  it is way to late for him to become a team player. I wish Philly would of got rid of him at least 5 years before they did. Iverson your a crybaby PUNK!!!

Based on the 4 games played so far it would appear that Randolph is getting a bad rap.  He has been a hard working team player.  I agree with Iverson that he should play more and his being on the bench too long probably cost the Griz the game last night.  But I don't like his complaining and it will cost him money in the long run.

He'll be a Clipper soon, as long as he knows his role and play point guard. BD will be gone by trade deadline

Iverson has never been a team player and i think the alert went out to all teams and gm's that this is it for iverson..That's why he'll never get a ring....no way should you be in a league this long and not learn how to be a team player....i would never play with iverson...EVER!

Where is the Luv? Remember AI took Philly to the Championship one year, and it was not his fault that they lost. The blame goes to his teamates, and of course the Lakers.

I feel that if the Griz went with a 3 man rotation (Iverson, Mayo & Conley) at the the PG and SG positions, then each would average over 30 minutes a game and would be a very effective backcourt.  Now if they had just kept Hakeem Warrick, we would have a good team forming.

Funny how things go down! Remember  some 7 or 8 years ago players like Francis, Marbury and Iverson were so "in". They were All Stars, Iverson was MVP, Marbury was compared with Big O. Francis was nicknamed " The Franchise" for Christ' sake! They all crashed and burned...horribly!

It is always good to hear thoughts that come from a place of common sense. Great comment, and it 's good to know that there are a few Grizzley fans out there.

Not even the Clippers are crazy enough to make that ttrade. BD has a little more trade value.

Iverson complain? now why is that such a surprise... Rememer " Practice, Practice, we talking about Practice". He needs to understand he is not the answer and never will be. Good luck Mr. Iverson, let us remember him for his play on the court rather than his off court antics.

Whats wrong with wanting to work.NBA player A.I. wants to work I do not see nothing wrong with this.  You get people who come into work who do not want to work, just there to collect their pay.

Hey J, ok I am with you on the NBA is a team sport Derek Fisher is an NBA  poster child/icon of this, but as you mention the word STATS, that is why it is a name for this area.  Don't get me wrong nothing wrong with Derek Fisher stats their great, but to get nice fat contracts and sponsorships its not a team thing with contracts and sponsorships.

I think some team should have offered Iverson the "veteran exception" contract.  He has some marginal game left, but any of that will erode quickly in Memphis.

Thats the truth that no one wants to acknowledge talk2j.  Everyone complains about the lack of "team" play with some guys, but the reality is that owners/sponsors aren't forking over mega deals for players averaging 12pts 10assts a game.  We may not always like it, but you can't blame players for trying to maximize their earning potential.  We expect no less for ourselves.

I'm feeling you clark12.  Speaking of that spectacular fiasco...How the heck joe dumars survived that decision with minimal criticism is completely beyond me.  If AI couldn't function in an environment with a team full of professional, mature players, what value would he bring to the roster of young, impressionable ones in Memphis???  I hope the rise in ticket sales will be worth this potential debacle.

I wouldn't go that far skywalk24....they're still the clippers.  Which means they are not necessarily like the rest of us.

Ben Gordon IS NOT a younger Billups.  BG has no handles and can't play D, hogs the ball, and can't dish the basketball.  He is one of the most streakiest scorers in the Association.  I was happy that the Bulls didn't resign him.
