JR Motorsports talks to Danica Patrick
Danica Patrick with JR Motorsports? Talks are underway
The sponsor is already in place.  GoDaddy.com sponsors Danica in IRL and is one of the sponsors in JR Motorsports Nationwide car, so it almost seems too logical.

Dale Jr turns 35 years old today, and while his worries right now are about he and his crew and his car and how they are doing at Fontana, he also acknowledged that his sister Kelley, the company's General Manager, has been in early talks with Danica.

Will it happen? Well time will tell, but certainly, Dale Jr would like to see it happen,

"I like Danica a lot. I consider myself friends with her, and it's interesting to see her interest in NASCAR. It's interesting for all of us -- everybody. If we're a piece of that, and if we play a part in that, we'll see, going down the road. Right now, it's just Kelley and her having a few phone conversations about it, and it really hasn't gotten any further than that, as far as I know."

If I were a bettor, I'd be thining it's as good as a done deal.

It seems like every week there is a new rumor concerning Danica and her possible jump to Nascar.  At this point, I'm tired of the circus and hoping that sometime soon, one way or another, something will be set in stone so everybody can stop talking about it.

Yeah, yeah, I know. She's (eventually) gone. IndyCar is doomed. NASCAR is the best. I'll assimilate eventually. I get it.

Amen to that, Scott!  What I want to see done is this Danica soap opera.

When Kelley is talking there is definitely something in the works.  She is the manager of JR and the company. Kelley has the last call on these things and JR takes her advice very seriously.  Personally, I really don't care to see her in Nascar.  BTW:  Happy Birthday JR!

I'm so sick and tired of hearing about Danica. She doesn't do a darn thing for me. Now Helio would be a person of  interest for me.

Happy Birthday Junior!!!

I don't think she would shake up the guys. They are professional.

Actually, Stewart Haas was quick to deny any "talks" and both Tony and Waltrip said she had visited their shops and looked around. Tony said she was "picking his brain" more than anything, trying to get some advice on how to make the move.  JR Motorsports is the first team to acknowledge they are actually talking to her about putting her in a car.

That being said, I'm also sick of it, but it's news and because of who she is, I'm obligated to report it.  No one will be happier than I when I don't have to.

unfortunately your forgetting the whole "girl power" thing, that is done off the track excitement she'll bring. on the track she'll more than likely struggle quite a bit. but in the end it'll make whoever she drives for millions of dollars , and being that i am a die hard dale jr. fan that makes it a huge success. just think about nascar's marketing possibilities with"girl power" . so ironically like her soon to be boss, it won't matter if she wins or not. the playboy pics didn't hurt the deal either.

Hendrick should put Danica in the 88. The results can't be any worse than Joonyer's..and there won't be too big of a drop-off in merchandise sales and tv exposure during the races, even if she's in 30th place.

Jr has not said they are putting her in the 88  or any other car YET.  What he did say, if anyone read the article, was that his sister Kelley, as representative of JR Motorsports has been talking to Danica to try to work something out.  The ride for the 88 has been filled for next year.  JR Motorsports also runs the 5 some times and Danica wants a chance to try the N'wide series. It's a perfect opportunity for her to try it out and see if she likes it.   Maybe she is a model type and enjoys the photo shoots as much as she does the racing but honestly, who cares?

If Danica does make a move to some area of NASCAR, I wish her success.  She could be good for the sport, or maybe not, but she deserves a chance if that is what she wants, just like anyone else.

What does girl power have to do with Nascar? I'm sorry but I don't agree. Off the track excitement has nothing to do with being a Nascar Driver in my opinion. This whole thing is boring as far as I see it. If she does makes the move, key word being "if", she needs to start in the Nationwide series just like anyone else and not the Cup Series. OK, she's a beautiful woman but that doesn't mean she can drive a Cup car. The Playboy, Go Daddy girl has nothing to do with racing either that or I'm missing something here. Nascar is about on the track not the off the track activities. I just wish the whole thing would go away. It has nothing to do with the Chase and that's what I'm interested in now. I am a Nascar fan and could care less what goes on off the track. Just my honest opinion.

Very well put !! Couldn't agree with you more...Amen...

I agree with PJ on this one. "IF" she does come to NASCAR she needs to start where all the "boys" start, at the bottom and earn your right in the cup series.  I don't care if you are male or female, if you can drive and prove it, start like everyone else and work your way through the ranks.  I personally don't care what you do off the track or what attitude you have.  There is definitely plenty of attitude on race day and it just isn't the "men".  They all have egos and some are stoked a bit more than the others, usually the new drivers and some of the older drivers on a daily basis.

Okay, I started to get on the soap box, but think I will get off now before I put my feet up my oops in my mouth!

Kelly Bires is driving the 88 - that has already been announced.  Dale Jr also announced that his sister, Kelley, has been talking the Danica, because Danica has expressed an interest in driving in NASCAR.  JR Motorsports must believe she has some kind of talent, whether she has won one race or not, and are trying to work something out for her to drive in Nationwide npart time, when she isn't driving in IRL.

And just to clarify to some of the other posts, she is NOT going into the Cup series.  IF Jr Motorsports and she work something out it will be for a few races in N'wide series when she isn't in the indy car.

Whether people like her or not, Danica is news in the racing committee, no matter the style of racing.  If she expresses a desire to race and a team owner expresses an interest in hiring her, it's news, and that is what my job is here, to report the news.  Yes, there have been many stories about her, yes, many of them have been disclaimed.  This one, however, came directly from Dale Earnhardt Jr.  He said it in an interview on TV.  I would hope he knows what's going on in his own company, and wouldn't just be spreading rumors for publicity.

Well I sure wont be taking her fishing..LOL.

But you are right Debi, it is news, and she does deserve as much a chance as the next guy. She doesn't need to start in Arca, she has enough track experience behind her to bring her to the rookie league. If anyone thinks Danica has never been in a stock car, you are underestimating the girl.  She isnt dumb by any stretch, and has been around racing a while now, I am sure she has strapped in a time or two.

It is what it is..
As for girl power, I actually think it would be kinda kool to have a woman actually be successful and competative, just wishing it wasnt her..LOL

I'm not sure if she is the type of girl into fishing anyway huh?   i just think people are writing her off and wanting her out of it because she is a female, you know?  If she tries it and doesn't like it, or doesn't do well at it, that's okay, she has an opportunity to do something only a handfull get.

Since this keeps showing up on my wall (thanks to me being dumb enough to comment when drunk as hell), I might as well say something.

First, judging by her Twitter, I doubt Danica would be into fishing either.

As for her driving, I don't know how good a stock car driver she would be, and for the most part wouldn't care a whole lot. If it weren't for certain people using open wheel driver's stock car results as a projection to the quality of the open wheel leagues, I wouldn't care at all (save rooting for former CART guys, I always root for former CART guys).

In the end, I don't really want Danica to do this, because it would be a PR disaster for IndyCar. However, IndyCar has so many issues I'm not sure it would even matter anymore. I've never been a fan of her, partly due to her past behavior issues. Unlike many though, I'm perfectly willing to acknowledge she was on her best behavior this year, and I wouldn't put her as the biggest whiner in IndyCar anymore (Messers Andretti and Rahal, please step forward).

What really annoys me is all the crap that DP is a terrible IndyCar driver. That's objectively false. She's not great, but there's no IndyCar fan that isn't an 8 year old girl that would say that. Pressdog said it best a while ago, she's a fairly talented driver who used her other assets to get in the big leagues. I would add that while it's obvious talent wasn't the sole reason DP made it to IndyCar, her results at the very least show her as an above-average driver who belongs. The first half of this year, in fact, was her best ever. The second half wasn't as good, probably due to business distractions, more road courses, and AGR's slow decline.

I don't know if any of that makes sense, but those are my slightly disjointed thoughts on the situation.

This is the second time I've seen you mention her win was in Japan. Do you have something against winning an official, sanctioned race in another country? Sure sounds like it.

I hate splitting hairs like this, but in this very thread you said:

hell she has only one win, and that was in Japan for cryin out loud..

I don't really see what the win being in Japan has to do with anything. I know the two reasons why people disparage Danica's win (not that I buy either of them), and it being in Japan isn't one of them.

I'm just saying it's a little weird to specifically mention it was in Japan likes that matters. Smacks of ethnocentrism, which seems par for the course for many NASCAR fans.
