JaMarcus Russell the worst quarterback ever?
Is JaMarcus Russell the worst quarterback ever?
During the epic beatdown that the Raiders received at the hands of the Giants yesterday, JaMarcus Russell actually did something good. He completed 8 of 13 passes for 100 yards. Normally, those would be the stats of an awful QB, but for Russell, this was his best game all year. And here's the even better news: It pushed his season completion percentage above 40%. Awesome! Although I should note he was sacked six times yesterday, and fumbled three times.

Anyway, Russell through 5 games this year now has a completion percentage of 42.1%. Somewhere, Tim Couch and Ryan Leaf are wondering why they aren't still in the league.

So, here's the question: Is JaMarcus Russell the worst QB ever? He's getting pretty close if he isn't already there.

I would say there is a distinct possibility that yes, he is.

Rich Gannon could come out of retirement and put up better numbers than Russell is (if the Raiders would let him within 500 yards of their organization)

Nah, not even the worst Raiders QB ever.....remember Todd Marenovich?  Is that even how his name is spelled?....then again, who cares?

well i think he has terrible linemen, they cant hold a two year old back. they are weak , russel has put on a few  pounds, least to say he havent missed any meals, he has access so he needs to take advantage of it, WORKOUT!!!!!!

Wait... his team won? He must have been great. That's what I'm told, at least.

He looked confused on what to do yesterday.  I bet if he was on a different team he would be a better player.  I also never realized how tall he is; 6' 6" and 275.  With that he should be throwing the linebackers off of him left and right.

Here's my 5 worst QB's
1) Jamarcus Russell
2) Derek Anderson
3) Ryan Leaf
4) Tim Couch
5) Tom Dorsey
I want to put Art Schlichster on that list but he got busted for gambling and never played a snap so forget him

Come on, Derek Anderson above Ryan Leaf?  Derek did have that one good year.  That pretty much puts him above Leaf and Couch, at least.  I guess if you're thinking of the two worst quarterbacks playing TODAY, than that 1-2 you've got is more accurate.

what about Vince Young???? u can't tell me he's not the worst u've seen. he had way more hype than Russell coming out of college. now he's become nothing but a over-hyped bust.

It's a privilege to play in the NFL. The best atheletes in the world play in the NFL. Russell is a good QB coming from LSU, he's just not clicking right now!

True.  You suck pretty bad if you lose your job to Kerry Kollins.

Ryan Leaf is still the textbook definition of draft day bust.  Russell is making a great case for #2, but I don't think anyone will ever surpass Leaf.

Russell is the worst QB right now in the game of football, hands down. We can blame the O-line, the running game, or even the coach, but Russell doesn't do to many things well at all, hell he's even scared to run, when he's like the biggest player on the field.

10/12/09

Blah blah Russel's fat, Russell's the worst ever!. Are you going to tell me put in ANY other qb and the Raider's will magically win and return to respectability? I don't buy that, not with Tom "the" Cable guy in there, he can't coach he proved that at Idaho. I've never wanted to say this but maybe it's time for Al Davis to step aside with as many changes as the Silver and Black need it's doubtful Davis will still be around to see them!

I think he is the worst QB at the moment. It's just as hard to debate the worst of all time as it is to debate the best of all time. I do think he should be more developed than he is. Another reason why I believe rookies should not be given such huge contracts before they've proven they can play in the league

I REALLY DONT KNOW WAT PEOPLE SEE IN JaMARCUS RUSSELL????....HE CANT RUN...HE CAN BARELY THROW...HIS PASSER RATING IS OBLIVIOUS...IF THE RAIDERS EVER AND I MEAN MAYBE IN THE NEXT 20 YEARS WANT TO ATLEAST MAKE IT TO THE PLAYOFFS THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE TO GET RID OF HIM AND QUICK!!!

I feel thay are out for self on some games. (did you listen to kirk )they know who their weakness are but can get rid of them. Im not sure how the practices are going . come onnnnnnnnnnnn remember at least five years ago they were doing very well. even with the trades they gotten they ended up with the poorest of the trades and this is what we got.

Good news, JaMarcus!  There is a YouTube video titled "Kyle Boller is not good at football",    former FSU quarterback Wyatt Sexton was found in the middle of the street announcing to everyone that he was God, and Joey Harrington routinely wins "worst football player of all-time" awards online.  PS: Ryan Leaf, who needs no explanation.  The bar is set high, JaMarcus, but you're on your way.

Although JaMarcus Russell is playing at near Leafian levels, I don't think he's the worst quarterback ever. But there's still time for him to become the worst ever.

i was at the bills game on sunday and i am convinced that anderson's QB rating of 15 is the worst ever by a winning QB. but to put Jamarcus Russell's season into perspective, he is worth -6 points in my fantasy football league. which means that i am technically a better fantasy QB then Russell.

He is in his LAST year as a starting quarterback.  BREAKING NEWS: Vince Young and Jamarcus Russell to open a car wash in January.  It's over fellas.  They are too far gone for anyone to take them on as a project.  Back-ups...maybe.  The Rayduhs suck and will continue to suck until Al Davis finally takes his dirt nap.

Anderson had a 5 dropped passes(3 by Mossiwhateverhisnameis).  Cleveland averaged better than 4 yards/carry on Sunday.  But Cleveland didn't really win that game, more than Buffalo actually lost it.

I am sure there are many worse Quarterbacks o'plenty. Is he the worst starter of all-time? I dunno, maybe. Is he the worst QB to be taken #1? Maybe so.

Is he the worst QB playing right now? Definitely.

He is definitely the worst Quarterback I have watched in a long time. I remember watching him last year against Atlanta, and I had never seen a QB who looked so unprepared or clueless in my life.

10/12/09

Todd Marinovich was the first name that popped in my head.  But I think Ryan Leaf is the blue print of epic fail for "future superstar" status.

I've heard terrible things about him from others, Raider fans in particular. I didn't believe that he was actually that bad. Well, after watching my Giants turn him into little more than a traffic cone, I have to say that yes, he is that bad. He is the worst QB I have ever seen. He is completely clueless out there. He has no sense of what is going on. That is why he had as many fumbles (3) + times sacked (5) as he did complete passes (8). I'm sorry Raider fans. Sorry for not believing you and sorry that you're stuck with that bum.

well since he seems not to be able to quaterback maybe his future is o-line or defensive end. He seems to belive that prep work is for others not him i'm okay with the raiders going 1-15 or 0-16 every year until davis dies

Is JaMarcus the "Worst QB ever?" Well that depends on how you define worst.  Is biggest, fattest, laziest, pile of crap to ever pick his ultimate bafoon self up long enough to allow his few brain cells to rattle around and turn a complete thought into an action that a crippled and mentally handicapped 9 year old would be envious of while stealing money from the Raiders and anyone stupid enough to grant him endorsement deals (who if they were, they should be on the business end of a firing squad themselves) and making guys like Ryan Leaf and Alex Smith seem palatable by comparison meet your definition of "worst?'  Because if it is even remotely close, the answer is a resounding YES!

I know the Raiders invested a lot (too much obviously) of money in him but it is past time to cut losses and go with someone else. Anyone else.

Maybe not worst of all time though.

As a Die-Hard Raiders fans I am sicken to see the Biggest (also part of his problems/ his weight) & one of the highest paid Qb perform as he does. Even with the other issues we have ie.. offensive line etc he never takes charge as the leader on the field and shows no signs of disappointment, but then when one has a 30 million dollar gauranteed contact and no loss of job threat, why would he? So yes for my $ and cheers, he's the worst starting Qb in the NFL, hands down!!!!

I am in morning because my team is dying and it's not getting off it's on ass to do what they should to get back on track, it's almost as though, they have neither pride or shame and they continue to fall each week and collect a pay check for going through the motions.  You would think that someone would pull Al Davis aside and say enough is enough, week after week 54 come onto the field and they paly as though they are unprepared and totally outclassed by each team they play, they only game they showed some heart in was game 1 and after that they have not shown any grit or determination to win, and while every other team in the league is scrambling to win, I find my team actually looking as though they just want to hurry to get off the field.  I would love to coach the team and do some things to change the entire outlook and aspect of th team, and for all the guys who don't want to play and don't want to work hard I would kick they're ass like an extra point and get someone else on the team who wants to be their.

I am so disgusted with our Choices of Quarterbacks of late until I AM SICK!!!!!! I have noted in several blogs of what the RAIDERS problems are: THE QUARTERBACK POSITION!!!! The team itself has improved to be competitave and would have more wins if we had someone to THROW THE BALL!!!!!!Being a long time RAIDER FAN I can say that I AM DISGUSTED!!!!!! Why dont  the coaches just give the other players a chance like the Raiders did when Kenny Stabler got his chance when Lamonica  started to fade.....WHO KNOWS!!!! we cant get any worse than we are NOW!!!  And one other things AL needs to step away from the team and let the people he hired to their JOBS and see what really may happen!!!!

You're case is different than ours, your owner got old and senile.   Our owner died and left the team to his son, the accountant.  As long as he makes money he doesn't care how the team does.
