Jacked Up! Warriors Defeat Spurs In OT Thriller

While sporting their all gold new look alternate unis, which featured pinstriped shorts and sleeved jerseys, the Golden State Warriors defeated the San Antonio Spurs 107 - 101 in overtime Friday night in Oakland.  The Spurs came into the game red hot while on the back end of a back-to-back after crushing the Clippers, a 6 - 1 record on their annual rodeo road trip and winners of 16 of their past 17 games  The win marked the first for the Warriors against San Antonio since January 2008, a span dating back five seasons and 16 games.  David Lee scored 25 points and grabbed a career high 22 rebounds while Stephen Curry added 19.  The star of the game was Jarrett Jack, who atoned for a cold-shooting night by Klay Thompson. Jack scored 30 points while dishing out 10 assists in 42 minutes off the bench.  It was the first such game that a bench player recorded 30 points and 10 assists since February 1996 when Magic Johnson accomplished the feat.   On San Antonio's end, Danny Green led the way with 20 points, while Tim Duncan was solid with 19 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots.  Manu Ginobili chipped in with 18 off the bench.

The Spurs led by one heading into the 4th, and raced out to a 13 point lead after scoring the first 12 points of the quarter. Golden State responded with a 13 - 0 run of their own to tie the game with six minutes to go.  Both teams alternated baskets down the stretch. San Antonio led 91 - 90 with half a minute remaining.  Jack hit a clutch three to put the Warriors up 93 - 91 with seven seconds to go.  The Spurs immeadiately responded with a lay up by Manu Ginobili, assisted by Tim Duncan on a well executed backdoor cut to the rim, sending the game into overtime. 

In overtime, Jack scored seven of his 30 points, including a key jumper and clutch free throws in the final minute to essentially seal the game.  Afterwards, Jack spoke about Coach Mark Jackson instilling confidence in him down the stretch.

Jack: "There was a point in time in the fourth quarter and overtime where Coach yelled at me and told me to get to my spot and take us home.  I love him for having that confidence in me.  I just tried to come back and deliver for him."

And did he ever.  Coach Jackson also spoke regarding his premier punch of the bench.

Jackson: "With all due respect to what Jamal Crawford has done for the Los Angeles Clippers, and with all due respect to what J.R. Smith has done for the New York Knicks, Jarrett Jack has been the best sixth man all year long."

Up next for the Warriors: a five game East Coast trip to Minnesota, Indiana, New York, Boston and Philadelphia.
