Jeff Samardzija and his not so awesome minor league ERA finally get called up to the Cubs to replace Kerry Wood. Now would be the time to put all your money on the Brewers.

Seeing as they have already committed $10 million (over 5 years) to him when he was drafted, you'd better hope you get something out of the guy.

Whether he turns out to be great, average, or a bust, he's yet another example of why the MLB draft needs a major overall in the next CBA.

+2 thumbs upyup it really sucks when the guy has a 3.03 ERA in his last 6 AAA starts, striking out 40 in 37.1 IP

additionally, it sucks when you allow 2 hits and one walk in six innings and strike out 9 guys in your last start

gee as a Cubs fan I gotta wonder...what are they doing????

(if you're too stupid to understand sarcasm...then just think that i'm agreeing with the headline)

Actually, he did look really good. Kid's got nasty, nasty stuff. Lou put him into a tough situation, his first MLB appearance mind you, and pitched very well for two pressured innings.

Turns out, relief pitchers give up runs from time to time. I know, I know, it's crazy. Even Mariano Rivera has done it. I'm not making this up, I swear.

I'd like to see a relief pitcher who doesn't give up any runs.

Signed,

+1 thumbs upHonestly the way his first three NL starts have gone...I think Rich Harden would be that reliever...allowing 8 hits, 2 runs, and striking out 30 guys in 17.1 IP? Sick...if the guy is on such a stringent pitch count (I imagine due to the whole "injury plagued" problem of his) why not make him a reliever (aka the closer) and Samardzija a starter?

Samardzija has some pretty nasty stuff.

ERA is a meaningless stat...you know that, right?

Oh boy......
