The AP has never named a NASCAR driver its Athlete of the Year. Until today.

Jimmie Johnson, who won his 4th consecutive Sprint Cup title this year, has been named the AP's Male Athlete of the Year. I know some people will say, "Wait, NASCAR drivers aren't athletes", but don't be ridiculous.

Even though Johnson isn't exactly the most electric guy in the world, he's done something quite impressive, and something no one else has ever done. And, as far as we know, he's not out there banging every other cocktail waitress he meets like Tiger Woods. So good for Johnson, and good for NASCAR to take this award this year.
