Jimmy Rollins says that the Phillies are still better than the Yankees
Despite all possible evidence to the contrary, Jimmy Rollins says that the Phillies are still better than the Yankees.

They had a better record during the regular season, against what most people believe to be tougher competition. They also rolled through the playoffs, and beat the Phillies in the World Series. However, Jimmy Rollins still isn't a believer, and says that the New York Yankees aren't as good as the Phillies.

"Do I think we're the better team? I really do. They just executed. I think we weren't playing bad, but they were playing that much better. ... They got the hits, we didn't. It's that simple."

Hmmm... ok, Jimmy. Whatever you say.

I'm about as big a fan of the Phillies as anyone, but even I think this is crazy.

Do I think the Phillies were better than they played?  Yes, absolutely.

Do I think the Phillies are better than the Yankees?  Not sure, but I do know that the Phillies did not deserve to win this series.  They didn't pitch well (except for Cliff Lee) or hit well.  They never really responded to Yankee surges with surges of their own.  They were outplayed and the final tally showed it.

Jimmy's entitled to his own opinions, but I think there are few people that would agree with him.  As much as I hate to admit it, you have to hand it to the Yankees - they were the better team in this series and deserved to win it.  ugh....

Jimmy....I'm fuzzy on your logic: "they played better" but "they aren't the better team".....did you mean better looking?

The better team won no doubt.  The Phillies pitching, with the exception of Cliff Lee, didn't get the job done.  And Ryan Howard was absolutely putrid.

In his own words,he lets us all know who the better team IS.

Jimmy Rollins was later heard saying "Even though the stove burned my hand, fire is still cold!"

Ryan, you are a good fan. You tip your cap to the Yankees, and showed good sportsmanship.
Many times fans, and athletes such as Jimmy Rollins simply cannot accept that they were beaten by a better team. I do not root for the Yankees, but respect the core that is Jeter, Posada, Rivera, and Pettite for winning their 5th World Series rings.
The Phillies are  great team, and should be right their again in 2010 as N.L. favorites.

as a yankee hater I have to say they were the better team.  And they were probably the best team in baseball.  Money will do that.  And no, I'm not a Phillies fan even though I have a flyers logo :)

The Yankees bought the World Series. Pedro not being able to punch Matsui and Cole Hamels having a nervous breakdown, I agree with Jimmy.

I can see someone saying something like that....IN A ONE GAME WINNER TAKE ALL, but NOT in a best of Seven series. As Keyshawn would say, Come on, Man!!!!!!!

I wasn't rooting for any of the teams. The only thing close to me being a Yankee fan is Houston's own home town hero Andy Pettite, from there I'm just a baseball fan.

Perhaps if this were like the NCAA tournament where one bad series or one bad call can cost the "better" team the game and a chance at a championship, this is a 7 game series. In a series of games the better team *always* wins, IMO.
