Joe Blanton will start Game 4 for the Phillies
The Phillies will send Joe Blanton to the mound in Game 4, instead of JA Happ, or Cliff Lee on 3 days rest. Is that a mistake?

The Yankees are using a 3-man rotation in the World Series, and plan on starting CC Sabathia in Game 4 against the Phillies. The Phils, on the other hand, will give their pitchers regular amounts of rest, meaning that they'll save Game 1 starter Cliff Lee for Game 5.

They've decided to go with Joe Blanton for game 4 against Sabathia. Do you think that's a smart move? I'm a little surprised they didn't go with JA Happ, who was better during the regular season. Charlie Manuel said, however, that he wanted to keep Happ in the bullpen, and that he thought Blanton's experience would help, since he pitched in the World Series last year.

What are your thoughts on the Phillies' rotation? Obviously the outcome of Games 3 and 4 will make a huge difference on how good this decision was, but I'm a little taken aback by the Blanton choice. Are you?

Again, when I agree with you Pat, it makes me feel like I need to take a shower in bleach, but, yes, on paper it looks like a terrible decision...If the Phils lose tonight, you are asking Blanton to outpitch CC...seems like a tall task, and I think Sunday is going to be a black day in Philly...

Personally, I'd be pitching Lee again in game 4...he gives them the best chance to win...not to mention, it makes him an option in game 7....now? Hamels? Is Pedro pitching again?

My gut tells me they go back to NY with the Yankees up 3-2...I must say, I hate the 2-3-2 format...and it hurts the Phils IMO...

I don't know about that....thats a tough call. Happ is younger and I guess their thoughts are maybe it will get to him? But he's playing at home...I think you got to stick with him. But that is why I don't manage....

Cliff Lee has never pitched on 3 days rest and if it had to come down between Joe Blanton or J.A. Happ to start game 4, I would've gone with Blanton as well

Only if they are down 2-1. And after Hamels stunk up the joint, it looks like they are.

Just remember, it's not definite until Blanton takes the bump.  I wouldn't put it past Charlie to change his mind Sunday afternoon.

Why not Happ.  He was their best pitcher most of the year.  Stay with what got you here.  Damn use them both.  Let one start, if he gets in a little trouble bring the other in.  I vote for Happ.

I would have gone with Lee in game 4 now if there is a game 7 he will not be able to start.

Well, looks like Pat, and myself, are correct....For the life of me I do not understand the decision...It's pointless to play what if, but the excuse that Lee has never pitched on short rest is silly...it is the WORLD freakin Series...you do everything you possibly can to win, and there is a nice off season waiting to get back those days of missed rest.

Also, was it me or was the home plate ump in that game terrible? He was all over the place, equally bad for both teams, with an edge to maybe more Yankees being on the bad end...The Tex at bat after his called 3rd strike typifies what I mean...all of the sudden, pitches that were strikes were not in that next at bat.
