John Odom commits suicide, 6 months after being traded for 10 bats
Remember the guy who got traded for 10 bats? Remember how he said he wouldn't kill himself? Ummm...

From the original article:

He kidded about the kooky deal that made him famous, saying it would make a better story if he reached the majors someday. "People are like, ‘I'd kill myself' and stuff," Odom said at the time, dismissing any such notion.

Three weeks after the trade, he abruptly left the team. Six months after the trade, he was dead. The medical examiner said Odom's death in Georgia on Nov. 5 at age 26 was an accidental overdose from heroin, methamphetamine, the stimulant benzylpiperazine and alcohol.

Depressing.  Just wish that these guys would realize the pain that they leave their family and friends with.  My cousin had one of his best friends kill himself and it still haunts him.

The ego is such a fragile thing - especially on young athletes.  This is a very sad story.

Sad indeed... but I did see a comment elsewhere that made me crack a smile.

"The greatest tragedy in all of this is that the team that traded 10 bats for this guy overpaid. 8 bats and a rosin bag at most is all they should have given."

Not likely to be anyone else's fault when he stuck the thing in his arm. But it is sad for the family, I feel bad for them.
