Juan Pablo Montoya Wins Toyota/Save Mart 350 in Sonoma. No Word on Whether Wine Was Thrown at Him
by CriticalFanatic
6/24/07

I don't know if he was revenging his father, but Juan Pablo Montoya has avenged some early NASCAR troubles to win his first series race.

Montoya can now at a NASCAR series to win to his Indy 500 and F1 win, while also becoming the first foreign-born winner since 1974.

Having some experience with actually making right hand turns, this was his opportunity to shine.

There's been much debate on whether F1/Indy drivers are more talented to NASCAR. This helps those who side with the former.

Not a favorite among the core NASCAR crowd, you would expect some wine to be tossed on the Sonoma track. That is, if fan actually drank wine.

Hope you're ready for Montoya Madness (FanIQ)

I was very glad to see Juan take the win. That was an exciting end to the race. I'd watch a lot more NASCAR if they raced more road courses. Varied turns plus the ability to bump makes for some good racing.

Agreed on all accounts. This is a NASCAR race I'd attend, but that may be because it's in Sonoma, I'm not sure.

JPM wins Sonoma. Paul Tracy wins at Cleveland (with me in attendance), and Dario Franchitti wins at Iowa.

IRL needs to find a way to make their cars a little less aero-dependent.  Today's race at Iowa should have been great, but istead it ended up being the only boring "nose to bumper" finish I've ever seen.  Marco Andretti should've won that race today, except it was impossible for him to pass.

As for JPM, I feel somewhat vindicated.  For whatever reason so few NASCAR fans actually believed this guy was talented.  His performance today should shut up the critics.

Those road course races aren't money dependant like the other tracks.  Good for him.

I didn't see it, but Iowa appears to have been a mess from many angles.

As for Montoya, I doubt this will shut up the critics. They'll say he won on fuel mileage. Like *that's* never happened before. *rolls eyes*
