Top Kentucky basketball recruit John Wall is facing eligibility issues, ESPN.com reports.
SEC Commissioner Mike Slive told the site that Wall and Mississippi State freshman Renardo Sidney have unresolved questions about whether they can play. Sidney's eligibility problems had been known publicly already.
"Those are amateur issues that arose prior to their coming to our schools," Slive told the site. "Those are strictly amateurism issues. As we told our people, somebody needs to determine if they are eligible."
ESPN.com also quotes an unnamed source as saying that Kentucky has been probing Wall's situation for months because Brian Clifton, Wall's one-time AAU coach, was a certified agent with basketball's international governing body for about a year.
ESPN reports that the relationship could mean that Wall, the crown jewel of coach John Calipari's first recruiting class, accepted illegal benefits as defined by NCAA guidelines. The freshman point guard may have to repay expenses to Clifton and could be forced to sit out a certain number of games.
"My understanding is that all 13 players on our roster are eligible at this point," UK media relations director DeWayne Peevey told ESPN.com.
