King James to Join Kobe in L.A. Next Season?
Sam Smith believes a LeBron to the Lakers’ scenario makes the most sense for him if he wants a chance to be considered among the greatest winners of all-time.

And, really, everyone wants to play in L.A. The weather is fabulous. You can be a star and have privacy because there are so many other stars. And then when you want to be a star you can because it is a city of stars. And basketball is by far No. 1, the only big city in the U.S. where you can say that. Plus, owner Jerry Buss knows stars sell and has been the most successful at recruiting and paying for stars.

Don't even get me started...King James in L.A. with Kobe...WOW!!!

Charles Barkley says LeBron will stay in Cleveland. Oddly enough I agree with him.

I can't imagine LeBron would want to share the spotlight with Kobe.  Great comments you guys.  Season 2 is re-educating me already.  I'm out of respect to give!!!

If he's going to LA, its as a Clipper.  As an NBA fan, it'd be pretty sweet.  Los Angeles would be the epicenter of basketball.

That's funny, I thought that some guy named Kobe was begging  to get out of L.A. Never mind, the "great weather" will keep them in.

if he does then I will have to rock myself to sleep in the corner b/c no one will stand a chance against them.

Sounds good huh??....If Lebron's main goal is carving out his own niche and winning championships as the main guy then ....maybe not...However if his main goal is to win rings Now ,then we could see something like this happen. Wouldn't be fair to the rst of the league though...Imagine Jordan and Magic playing together in their prime.....

Sam Smith is delusional. He tried doing this sort of crap all time at Chicago Tribune with trades

I seriously doubt that. Kobe will get along about as well with LeBron as he did in the last years with Shaq, which is to say not at all.

They might be able to play together on Team USA, but both on the Lakers? Chemistry disaster.

I would have loved to witness that...Magic behind the back pass, no look, to MJ flying down the wing...Siiiiick!

It would be nice to see Lebron in a lakers uniform, Kobe will be getting ready to shut in down in a few years and lebron could carry the Lakers into the future.

I don't see LeBron in Los Angeles anytime soon; LeBron is very self-centered, not much of a team player. Kobe, on the other hand, is looking for a superstar partner in crime, the spot is temporarily filled by Ron Artest, but who knows how that will work out.

unstoppable is the only way to describe that notion

Its not gonna happen. Im from  L.A  and huge Laker fan; Kobe and Lebron will never be able to co-exist. Not to mention how this will undermine the rest of the players like gasol and artest, and it will slow the development of bynum  and shannon brown. And we cant afford him!! the Knicks and Nets are already shuffling personnel around to make room for their ridiculous offers next season.

King James and Kobe under one rood would be too wild. There is not enough building to hold the two of them on one team....it's a typhoon waiting to happen.

I really don't think there is a chance in hell LeBron goes to LA. Neither player would like being 2nd fiddle, and one of them will have to be.

it doesnt matter where he LeBron plays he will still b king, but i would like him to stay in Cleveland--go Cavs

lets not ever speak of such things. The biggest stage in the world  awaits King James....NEW YORK CITY ...Thank you. And please don't ever speak of Kobe on this page. It hurts just to say his name. I hate the LAKERS. Please endorse my candidate for the NEW YORK STAGE. CLEAVLAND does not have NEW YORK CITY MONEY, SO SAY GOOD BY TO THE KING NEXT YEAR. IT will be be D-WADE and King JAMES. CAN YOU FEEL IT.

I still think the front runner is New Jersey, errr, Brooklyn. Cap space, a couple of solid young teamates, a HUGE market, a silly rich Russian owner eager to promote his team overseas, etc. Plus, a #23 Brooklyn Nets jersey will be an instant smash hit. I don't think he can become a global icon sharing the stage with a global icon. He would always be a second banana in L.A., even after Kobe retires.

he could stay in clevlend and he could go to boston.

King James will still be the king no matter where he plays but for sure I doubt that he'll join Kobe in LA.  Team USA that's it.

If he signs with the Lakers  it would be a quick and cheap way to a title.

That won't happen. The Lakers can't afford that.

About 4-5 people on this post have made this claim about Kobe and chemistry...I wonder where you've all been over the years cause Kobe has played really  well with other NBA superstars both on team USA and on the Lakers.

You guys are still living in the past when the media kept trying to make Kobe the "Bad-Guy" in the Shaq/Kobe feud. Other than maybe a few more MVP awards, Kobe has all the individual accolades he wants already. He wants RINGS!!!

Kobe would love to play with King James in L.A. if it meant he could pick up 2-3 more rings. Kobe wants to surpass MJ's 6 titles. With King James on his side in L.A., Kobe would end up with 7-8 NBA Championships on his resume....

The league would not allow it...believe me, LeBron would come in a heartbeat, but there are complications:
1. Not enough money to sign him
2. How many folks would have to LEAVE to sign him
3. David Stern cannot AFFORD to have LBJ and the Black Mamba in the same division, much less the SAME TEAM...consider the rivalries they create (which makes the Celts look even more formidable, albeit a bit aged)...

I'd LOVE it, just as much as the next Laker fan, but the reality is it could never happen, unless planets lined up and Oprah got skinny

I strongly agree with theory #3...It's the main reason this scenario would never happen...But a "Sign & Trade" is something to consider especially with Andrew Bynum due $13 Million next season and Pau Gasol on the books for $17.8 Million. Combine one of those contracts with another 5-8 Million contract and you've got the 20-25 Million you need to keep LeBron and Kobe!! Sounds crazy, but you never know....

I have to agree as well, my opinion it would be the ego factor. If you recalled all the hype about Kobe and shaq come together?  and how the media play them against each other about who team the Lakers was after year it been Kobe's team. When one star gets more attention then the other the reporters poke at the individual to stir up some mess.  Its best for Lebron to make a name for himself rather be in the shadow of another players. Look how long it took Kobe to get walk out under from Shaq shadow.

Whatever happened to "competition"?  If you can't win where you are.....go to the best team so you can get a title.  Sounds like Karl Malone.  How many players wanted to go to the Bulls in the 90s so they could get a ring?

11/5/09

to be honest if he wants to be known as one of the greatest he will take his own team to a champion, thats what jordan and kobe did. they didnt band wagon to win

11/5/09

that would been nice if it did happen

rogercarver190, competition as  I see that everyone to play to their highest level of play and maintain it throughout the season.  now this hit or miss kinda season and it mean more than one player need to step up as well. this is why basketball is a team sport instead individual sport. In most cases for some teams is an individual sport. since most of the fans coming there to see that person play, why should the other step up every time they suit up to take to the court to play.

11/5/09

zballa07, well said!! I think they should stop calling him King under he can take his team to the finals and win a championship. every good king knows how to pull his people together. but have he?

Team USA is not the same thing because it was not "his" team.  The Lakers are Kobe's team.  These superstars you are talking about with the Lakers were role players for Kobe (with the exception of Shaq).

11/6/09

that is so true, but can you tell me what team sport their so called superstar player is willing to share the lime light with another and get along? before you know it, the media will stir up crap and get the ego's to clash.

Wow that would be awesome for LA could you imagine the number of point they would put up on that board  but to be honest I just don't see it happening.

Plus no Coach K.... you can't discount what he did for Team USA in keeping them playing together and ego's in check. I dunno if Phil can keep Kobe and Ron Artest on the same page, much less Kobe and LeBron.

2 questions come to my mind. Salary cap? And would LeBron be alright with Kobe being #1 on the team, even if he starts to decline in the upcoming years, until Kobe retires and the Lakers can become LeBron's team?

JayGee, thanks for reminding me about so called King James. He didn't show any class when his team loss and refuse to shake the other team players hand. Then given a lame excuse why he didn't shake the other team hand. Hey MJ did it when he lost to I. Thomas and the bad boys. If he wanted to be called or wear the title King then he needed to show some class.
