from what ive heard. new york already cleared some cap space and were actually planning on using him. i feel bad for mobley, having to retire from the NBA due to a heart problem. i used to love seeing this guy play in houston. i don't think the knicks forced him to retire though. i highly doubt that he would even listen. if they told him to retire, wouldnt he just ask to be traded instead? or atleast released to become a free agent?

1	Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is the most common cause of sudden death among athletes. They usually have two choices: an implantable defbrillator (sort of like a big pacemaker) or retire and avoid strenuous athletics. Really a tough choice for any athlete, but this what Hank Gathers and Reggie Lewis died from. Not really a joking matter. I feel sorry for him.
