LA Times writer questions where Albert Pujols gets his power from, no one attacks him for speculation
If you're a blogger and speculate about MLB players using steroids, you get crushed. If you're an LA Times writer, you get off easy.
Some of you may remember a blogger named Jerod Morris wrote a post on MidwestSportsFans.com that looked at the possibility of Ibanez using steroids because of the way he'd been playing in the 2009 season. It quickly turned into a s***storm of mammoth proportions, as Morris was trotted out on ESPN's Outside the Lines and lambasted by Ken Rosenthal and others.

Well, look what we have now. A sportswriter for the LA Times - Jerry Crowe - is doing the exact same thing as Morris was, speculating about MLB steroid use. Except this time, it's about the grandaddy of them all - Albert Pujols.

So where's the outrage over Crowe getting just as speculative as Morris did? I don't know.

This is yet another reason why I hate the mainstream media so much. Bash blogs for fueling speculation, but then look the other way when mainstream guys do it. What a joke.

Buzz Bassinger and his cadre on flying ferrets cackle with delight.

This is ridiculous, love how the big boys decide that instead of working harder to get the stories right and getting with the changing landscape of sports journalism, they will just look to bash blogs since they are not in the "sportswriter club" all the while they are more than willing to do exactly they bash.

And the major sports information entities wonder why people are turning their backs on them.

Jerks!

Do you all hear the evil meniacal laugh of Chris Mortensen too?

Similar to what Mark Cuban did when he bashed his own team's bloggers openly and banned them from having up-close access to the team.  It's very hypocritical for this to go on, since bloggers and writers are essentially the same thing.  I think a lot of the hate goes with the fact that bloggers are putting the paper media (and the writers who write it) out of business.  Call it sour grapes, or call it a nosedive into the realm of obscurity, but either way the writers will always get away with that kind of crap more and more.

It also shows the sense of entitlement and arrogance of  print journalists.  A lot of guys are more focused on making a name for themselves or showing off their vocabulary rather than writing something that will engage readers into conversation or thought.  Plus, the best thing about blogs is usually the comments from fans that follow

Well that's only because the Tribune Company does such a great job of running the Times into the ground.

There it is.  In the next few years, many of the mainstream journalists will be replaced by credible bloggers.  I'm sure the dinosaurs were angry before they went away too.
