USC Head Coach Lane Kiffin brought his father over to Southern Cal to head the defensive unit for his newly acquired squad. Matt Barkley had been the QB of this distinguished football program for a few years and considered by many to be a lottery pick last season.

However, because of the recent struggles of the USC football program, specifically on defense, Barkely's value has taken a hit and he is considered, by most, to be a second round pick in a draft that does not have much quarterback depth.

“I think he’s going to be a great starting quarterback in the NFL, and the film shows it,” Kiffin said to ESPN Los Angeles Wednesday. “The plays he makes, all the throws he’s made here, the leadership qualities … I’ve said this before: If Matt Barkley had the defense that Matt Leinart and Carson Palmer had, Matt Barkley would have won the Heisman Trophy just like they did. He would have had the winning records they had.

Kiffin truly believes in Barkley's talent, and who's to say that he shouldn't? Barkley has performed very well against top caliber opponents in the past and should be a viable option for teams searching for a QB in the draft (cough. Jets. Cough.)

But who knows if the Jets are willing to take a chance on another USC QB.
