LeBron Is A Better Player Than Kobe Says Jerry West
The NBA Logo Himself, Mr. Jerry West, Says LeBron Is A Better Player Than Kobe
The man who is the NBA's logo, who goes by the name Mr. Clutch, and who is one of the greatest Lakers of all time, has declared LeBron James to have surpassed Kobe as the best player in the game.

West's rationale is simple. How many games would the Cavs have won without LeBron?

West will get no argument from me. LeBron is clearly the better all-around player in my mind as well. After all, he makes his teammates better. One can't say the same thing about Kobe.

It's not fairly accurate to judge these players soley on how many championships they won.  Kobe did win those titles with Shaq while Shaq was still in his prime and one of the best or 'the best" big man in the league.  Shaq was the dominant player on that time.  They ran Shaq out of LA (Jerry Buss and Kobe) because they wanted to keep Kobe and Shaq was getting up there in age.  Kobe has yet to prove he can win one w/o Shaq.
Lebron time is right now.  He makes the players around him better point blank.  He knows when it's time to take over the game.  Kobe forces the issue and doesn't rely on his team at times.  Lebron and the Cavs are playing at an unbelievable level right now.  When they meet in the playoffs (if they both make it) then we will see.

All we need is Jordan to say it those will be the sprinkles on top and put this bitch to bed.  Thank you Jerry West and there's no one who can argue with him cause when he was in LA he was superb GM, if you want to say in Memphis he's not can't, he's got a good young nucleus there too.  The man knows basketball.

LeBron is a stud but ultimately he is going to have to prove it by winning the finals - noone is going to deny that Stockton or Malone were really good players - but what a difference it would be if they had won a title. LeBron will need to do the same thing. He needs to take care of business when it matters - in the finals. So far he has done this through the playoffs but now he is going to face two really good teams in the Magic and Lakers. (no point in arguing about Denver making it).

ive gotten to tha point now, where i think tha only ppl who think that tha better player is kobe, are laker fans. other than that im pretty sure lebron is #1 on everybodys list.

Everybody have their fav, i think kobe have outplayed him in  All star game so i don't think ....let see who is the best......

Its not even so much a matter of who is better right now. They are at different points in their careers, once both careers are all said and done, then you can compare numbers. Lebron's skills might be a little better, no doubt about that.  However if both their careers ended today, Kobe would have the titles***.....Lebron would not.

***even though Shaq technically won those titles

If their careers ended today, Kobe would also have played 7 more seasons that LBJ and as you eluded to, he also played with arguably the greatest big man in history.

I guess my problem with the whole, "Kobe has the titles and LeBron doesn't" kind of bugs me.  Kobe has yet to win a title since Shaq left which I know most of all here can agree is a huge knock on Kobe.  Hopefully Kobe can prove everyone wrong this year.  LeBron makes his teammates better and has an overall game.

Excellent point.  This is what I was saying.  How much of a difference did Kobe make in the three title runs as opposed to Shaq?  If Shaq was not there, would the Lakers have won any of those titles?  Can someone run the numbers on it to see how great an impact Kobe had on the three titles via points, assists, rebs...etc?  It may be worth looking at.

This is a very fair assessment. LeBron is a better overall player than Kobe Bryant. LeBron makes his teammates better, Kobe isn't quite there yet.

Malone is considered 1 of if not the best PF ever.  Stockton is one of the best  but I'm saying even with a ring I don't think he would have moved up much I mean...they did get the buzzsaw that was MJ and "DA BULLS".

but don't you think they would be considered even better if they had won a ring? maybe not...I could be off - I just think that is often what is said about athletes.

I don't think we are necessarily judging them solely based on the number of rings - I at least don't mean to sound that way. I think LeBron is undoubtedly the best player in the NBA right now (emphasis on "I think") and he hasn't won a championship. I want LeBron to win one so that it won't even be a question.

Not true at all. I'm a Laker fan and think Lebron is a better player. But since Kobe plays for the Lakers who you think I'm rooting for???

Question, so if the Lakers win the Championship this year will all you people say Kobe will be the best? Yea, Lakers got the rings and all.(yup we got em, with shaq or whoever - we got em - had to rub that in). But we're talking about Kobe & Lebron here....even Mr. NBA said he would have Kobe take the last second shot. (why didnt anyone bring that up??)

as of the current season, based on their personal and team performances, i must agree that LeBron is a better player than kobe... isnt it pretty obvoius sometimes? LeBron improved so much and just keep making the shot always!

In reply to the fact that if their careers both ended today, Kobe would have 7 more years under the old belt......that's my point. How can you compare? That is what I said before. When you compare the two of them on court today.....Lebron gets an edge just because he still has his youth. If you had Kobe in his prime vs Lebron in his prime then who knows what would happen. Once both careers are over you will be able to look back and see who was better.

I know one thing though.......they get their vitamins

Kobe has rings Lebron does not so for now I would side with Kobe.

This reminds me back in the day we asked the same question about Jordan and Kobe. If you go back there are always those two guys. Kobe took over for Jordan and Lebron will take over for Kobe. I lived in Cleveland for 11 years born in LA. I just love to watch talent at that level. Each guy has there own MO JO. Lebron will come out firing and Kobe may take time to get pissed but when he does look out!

gotta wait till lebron gets a ring then i'll side with him

Yeah i agree, i don't want to judge them also based on rings.  But until Lebron wins one, I think most people aren't going to consider Lebron better.  Especially after the comment before me was made.
