LeBron James Told Trevor Ariza That He Will Stay In Cleveland After 2010
The Super Free Agent Summer of 2010 Might Have Lost Its Biggest Prize
READ MORE:
Possible big news out of Cleveland as a source told ESPN's Chris Broussard that LeBron told Trevor Ariza that he plans on staying in Cleveland after the 2010 season.

"Trevor asked LeBron if he would be in Cleveland after next season," the source said. "And LeBron said, 'I'll be there. Of course, I'll be there.'"

LeBron couldn't be reached for comment but if this is true, this is certainly huge news for the city of Cleveland.

I will believe it when I see it.  As far as Ariza or anyone else knows, it was a statement made to help lure free agents to Cleveland for the 2009-2010 Cleveland Championship run.  LeBron is going to take this upcoming season to evaluate everything and see which place gives him the best shot at winning a title.

Cleveland is his Championship team. He's like Clark Kent to them in that city. Plus he a good scents that for him to win a championship he must be the first option at all cost and the fact that they are sizing up for his physical offensive game play.

LeBron told this to Trevor Ariza because it's been said that Ariza might renege on his verbal agreement with Houston in order to join the Cavs. This was just LeBron attempting make it happen.

If Trevor Ariza does do this, I will have lost a lot of respect for him. In addition to that, it will be funny and ironic if the hypothetical situation occurs where Trevor does indeed jump ship, but then LeBron does the same thing next year when he says he'll "be there."

so what makers Trevor Ariza so much more special then the other Cav team mates? of course LeBron was just saying that to get him to come to Cleveland and if people read more into this...you need your head checked

id say thats a good move on lebrons part if what trevor says is true, though i believe it would get more weight if lebron had been available for comment, but if i were to have a say i would encourage him to stay on at his championship team!

If by being there, he meant he will be there packing his bags for New York, then yes, he will be there.

Until you hear it from the horse's mouth, then it is all hearsay.  The Cavs are at a disadvantage when it comes to luring free agents to sign with Cleveland.  For one people would rather go to LA and Florida and enjoy the scenery than to move to Cleveland.  Using LeBron as a recruiter for free agents to come to Cleveland is a way for them to offset that disadvantage but don't think it's enough for most free agents.

It has been widely speculated that the free agents that the Cavs targeted were weary about coming to Cleveland because there is the threat of LBJ leaving. So by telling someone that the Cavs are still very interested in (Ariza), that he isn't going anywhere, it is sure to have a calming effect on anyone who they do sign.

We can start Delonte West who is a fan favorite because he was the only supporting role player who wasn't scared, but is a paltry 6'3" SG.

Ariza has size. Defense. Guts. And a ring.

I'm hoping -HOPING- that LeBron stays in Cleveland. I'm also hoping that the Cavs sign Shawn Marion.

That's no surprise.  Why would he bolt for a team like New York or New Jersey, where he'd face, impossibly, an even higher amount of media scrutiny over a team with nothing to offer?  He wants to win a championship... why start over when he has the Cavs by the ear, he's having fun, and his team has plenty of space to work with (and has proven willing to pull the trigger when necessary),  It's a pointless debate though, as he's playing his part as a seducer of free agents and we're going to be hearing this over and over again all year long.

It's like Kobe leaving LA... I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah but having LeBron meet with them in Los Angeles even offsets the fact that LeBron is recruiting them in the first place.

Really, there aren't as many reasons for LeBron to leave Cleveland as people think. It's not like you need to be in LA or New York to put a great team together; San Antonio is a much smaller city and built a mini-dynasty around Tim Duncan. There's no reason Cleveland can't do the same thing. Especially given the marketing and merchandise revenue LeBron brings in (not to mention ticket sales), the Cavs can spend their full allotment within the salary cap, and should definitely be able to bring in top-notch players to complement LeBron. Plus, the media market exposure argument is bogus. LeBron is everywhere, anyway. He's a household name. It's not like he'd get bigger endorsement deals or more exposure if he were in New York. He's the best and most popular player in the NBA; it doesn't matter where he plays.

LeBron would do well to wait til next summer and see if he can convince Wade, Bosh, Nowitzki, or some other top-flight free agent to join him in Cleveland. After all, Wade has already threatened to jump ship in Miami if he doesn't think management does a good enough job putting a team around him this year.

this is all a way to get people to come to Cleveland enough said....no one wants to go there without LeBron there cause otherwise their team isn't worth a damn

Isn't it true that if he plays in NY LA or Boston, his endorsements with Companies like Nike automatically increase.   ANd if he is so inclined to stay why doesnt he just sign a new contract with Cleveland?

I do believe that he wants to stay in Cleveland but he will not stay if they don't upgrade the team to give him an opportunity to win a championship every year.  They still need an outside shooter, power forward, and to upgrade the 2nd unit.  Many of there starters would be bench players on all the other championship caliber teams.  He will not resign until Danny Ferry gets him his "Scottie Pipen".  They thought that Trevor Ariza was it.

Yes.  I believe him.  LeBron will play his entire career as a Cav.

i'd bet anybody that ariza, who in my mind isn't the brightest bulb in the socket, twisted lebron's words around so that he could be in the spotlight for a bit because he was the first to know that lebron wasn't leaving, and then his plan totally backfired and lebron's getting all of the attention.

LeBron stay, Cavs win. LeBron leave, Knicks, LeBron, and Cavs lose. But David Stern win.
