Least Valuable Player Award in MLB goes to Milton Bradley and Vernon Wells
Ah yes, it's time for the MLB's least valuable player award. Vernon Wells and Milton Bradley, come accept your prize.
Since the MVP award will be handed out tomorrow, might as well do the Least Valuable Player award as well.

SI's Joe Posnanski gave out this less-than-coveted award to Vernon Wells and, of course, Milton Bradly.

Wells was simply terrible all year, and Bradley was, well, Bradley.

Other awards given out were the anti-Cy Youngs, which went to Jason Berken and Manny Parra.

The worst manager award went to Trey Hillman and Manny Acta.

How did the Mets not sweep these awards?  Ollie Perez, Luis Castillio, Jerry Manuel?  I dare anyone to build a case that these weren't the worst everyday player, pitcher and manager in the National League.  I DARE you!!!

Fausto Carmona went 5-12 with a 6.32 ERA over 24 starts. His WHIP was 1.76. He had 70 walks to 76 strikeouts.
He was awful.
Berken was bad too, but at least he was a rookie.

A second baseman who hits 302 doesn't do it for ya huh?

a second baseman who has zero power, fields like a retarded chimp and dropped the single most devastating pop-up in regular season history... let's just say the answer to that one is no.

What second baseman can hit a ball out of that building? its like yellowstone. And its one pop up. lets not get out of control. Its one era in the scope of a 162 game season. The Met season was already dead in the water when that happened. it didnt change your season one way or another.

I agree with Milton Bradley winning the LVP award, a multi-million dollar player throwing a caught second out fly ball into the bleachers thinking it was the third out is beyond believe. Then to show his displeasure with the fan base as if his inadequacies are their fault, "Least Valuable" with "Most Paid" should be added. The LVMP award.

That pop up changed the whole tone of the season.  The Mets were in first place at the end of May and hanging tough through the injuries at that point in June; beating the Yankees would have kept their momentum going and hope alive.  Wright had that huge hit in the top of the 9th to take the lead and we were gonna win that game.   Instead, Castillo drops the pop-up and the whole vibe of the season sank.  How quickly you forget.  It also helped your momentum as well, since at that point the Yankees were languishing in second place.  Tex hustled the whole way on that play and scored when most players would have just trotted off the field.  It was a crusher and it seems by now most have forgotten, but trust me, if I live to 120, I will never ever forget that play.

Before that game the Yankees were a game out of first and that was not the big turn around of the season for either team. The Yankees even after winning that series still preceeded to drop 2 of 3 to the Nationals and Marlins. It began to turn in Atlanta. The Castillo play hurt but I don't think all was lost. If Omar didn't send away your top prospects there may have been some hope. There wasnt anyone left to fill the voids left by Delgado and Reyes. After Santana exactly who in that rotation is a quality starter?

You missed the point, it is the fact that the play is representative of both seasons.  The Mets dropping the ball and folding and the Yankees hustling and never saying die.  The Mets went on to lose 92 games; the Yankees won the GD World Series, and the fulcrum of both seasons was that pop up.  The Mets never played with an ounce of heart again and the Yankees could do very little wrong afterward.  Think Boston Massacre in 1978.  It didn't settle the AL East at all, but when people think of the Yankees turnaround in '78, that is what folks think of first.
