The relationship between Lovie Smith and the Chicago media is really starting to become strained. With a vitally important bounce-back game upcoming against the Cleveland Browns, Smith is tense and tight-lipped. Many believe that Offensive Lineman, Frank Omiyale will be replaced by Josh Beekman.
When asked about this expected move, Smith quickly changed the subject and chose secrecy over disclosure. In short, he refused to talk about any personnel matters. As a general rule, NFL coaches thrive in secrecy. Hiding information from the media, fan-base, and opposing coaching staff is a value. Smith admitted that he was fearful of giving his "opponent an advantage."
Don't kid yourself, however. There's more to this. GM, Jerry Angelo released the change in the O-Line on the team's website, Wednesday morning. It could be that the Lovie Smith said little because Angelo forced the move. Angelo is known to have a powerful temper, and after the team's shocking 45-10 defeat against the Bengals, he may have demanded a move. Do you mind when a team hides information? Does this secrecy give them any real advantage?
