MLB will only let veteran umpires call the World Series
MLB decides its playoff umps suck, will only let vets make the calls in the World Series
READ MORE:
MLB
MLB has had a series of ridiculously terrible calls made umps this postseason, from Joe Mauer's double-that-wasn't to that abortion of a Game 4 between the Angels and Yankees. So MLB has decided "Ok, you're right, our umps have sucked a huge one."

So they're bringing in the big guns only for the World Series. Longtime crew chiefs Joe West, Dana DeMuth and Gerry Davis, along with Brian Gorman, Jeff Nelson and Mike Everitt will handle the games, three people with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press this week.

Generally, one new guy gets to work the World Series each year. Not this year. And seriously, this is the right call. Thanks for figuring this out, MLB. Even if it came about 8 games too late.

Usually I disapprove of anything Bud Selig does, but for once he got it right! Every other pro league is preotecting their refs whether they suck or not, but he saw a problem, and i salute him. Bud, you just moved up in my book, and this Bud's for you! (bad pun, i know)

Selig is all "tied" up. Also, Donovan McNabb has no idea in regards to the whereabouts of Selig.

All Selig is doing is making it so HE'S the only one that can ruin the Series.  The only way Selig should be earning your respect is if he expands instant replay to cut out the bad calls.  These umps may have experience, but they're still just as capable of making bad calls as any other human.

Was this really Bud Selig's decision?  Of did others push for it?  Given Bud's severe disrespect of the game it sounds like it was something someone else wanted done.

I am kind of of the opinion that if there is something as bad as what happened the other night, MLB ought to have a back up crew of umpires to rush in should the others make too many bonehead calls.

If this doesn't work, I say bring back the old-timers.  Give me Doug Harvey, Ron Luciano, Harry Wendelstedt, and Frank Puli.  I hope none of those guys is dead.  I didn't check.

Well, if you want Luciano and Harvey to umpire any more games, you're going to need to get a shovel and  a flashlight

...and they'd still probably put together a better game than these clowns have. I'm not usually on umps too harshly, but it's not the close calls they are missing, that's human error. it's the painfully obvious ones. I'm pretty sure I saw the small bus with tinted windows dropping the umps off before Game 4 of the ALCS. You couldn't miss more of the game if you were dead.

Strong move, seeing how job performance and sucking don't go well together. Unless you're an intern for Bill Clinton.

I'm sure these guys will still make their fair share of poor calls.
