Mancuso Blasts US Olympic Popularity Contest

You could tell it had been building up for U.S. Women's skier Julia Mancuso.  Just days after winning downhill silver behind gold medal winner Lindsay Vonn, Mancuso (who won gold in the giant slalom in 2006), was quoted as saying, "Why does the media have to have just one star?"  

Then today, Mancuso blasted the U.S. ski team, calling their team meetings "popularity contests" whose tone and focus is determined by the health of Lindsay Vonn.

It also probably didn't help that Mancuso had her giant slalom run stopped today because the skier who started 45 seconds ahead of her was still on the course, receiving treatment after a crash.  When Mancuso restarted after the top 30 seeds, she posted only the 18th best time, with the second run today cancelled due to fog.  Oh yeah, that injured skier ahead of her.  It was Lindsay Vonn...
