Did either side ever look smart?

No, the Dodgers would have looked dumb only if they had bid against themselves. Manny and Boras look dumb because they tried to falsely say that there were other teams interested in signing Manny. If you've been following these various threads about this, you would see that I have been posting this very fact on just about all of them...that Boras was trying to create a false market for his client, when it was always a one-team market, because of the way Manny exited Boston.

Now, it is imperative that Manny perform like a professional during this contract, or the next time , it will be a no-team market!

The Dodgers affixed a value to a player's services, and held fast to that value, no matter how hard the agent of the player tried to confuse the issue by spreading false rumors of other teams' interest in signing that player.

I don't see how that makes them look dumb.

they should have let him hang out there a bit longer, its not like anyone else was interested...  or they would have been on it....

As of Sunday, the two sides were in agreement on a two-year, $45 million contract, but were in dispute over the deferral of salary that would discount the present-day value of the total compensation.

An agreement would end a four-month standoff in which the club made three offers.

The above is straight from the Dodgers home page, so they have NOT signed but it appears they are close.  The deferral of salary is apparently the hold up now.  I say he's lucky ANYONE grabbed him.  If he gets snotty I hope they withdraw the offer!

This is an argument, not over How much money...but When the Dodgers will pay (deffered money)

I'm not a big Manny fan, but he is the best right handed hitter in baseball now and for the last decade, When he decides to play. Hope this gets done so we start worrying about other more important things, like A-Rod's hip and if Brett Favre is unretiring again....

I'm sick of Manny, so on every Manny-related fan article, I will repeat what I've said about him for years.

MUCK FANNY!!!

They should fine him for everyday day he has missed, since it is the same offer from two months ago.
