Manny Ramirez will play for Los Angeles Dodgers in 2010
Is this good news or bad news? Manny Ramirez will return to the Dodgers next season.
In a move which I hardly find shocking, Manny Ramirez exercised his $20 million contract option for 2010. His agent Scott Boras informed Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti of the decision, which Ramirez had until this month to make.

Manny could have exercised an out clause in the two-year, $45 million deal he signed in March, but you know, he caught doing steroids so probably better to just take the $20 million remaining on the table.

Of course, I'm not sure how good this is for the Dodgers. They've spent two years getting pounded by the Phillies in the NLCS, and Manny seemingly does whatever the hell he wants - like take a shower while Jimmy Rollins is beating the Dodgers with a 9th inning double. Plus, it's pretty clear the Manny off the juice is not the same Manny on the juice.

But whatever, Dodgers fans. Manny being is Manny is back for another year, whether you like it or not.

The Dodgers need Manny. They do not have a pure HR hitter, and they need to keep him. They need his bat.

My vote is bad news. The money going to Manyy ($20 M) would be better spent on free agents with a future: read Matt Holliday or (ironically) Jason Bay.

Bad News!!  Another year of Manny being Manny.  The Dodger may need him but not his attitude. Two years in the NLCS is a pretty good run, but how much was Manny a part of their success.  Loney, Furcal, Blake, and Russell Martin are the keys to that teams success.  Nobody is worth that type of cash.

I can't tell if Manny has lost a little bit, but this is probably a really good economic decision for the Dodgers (Manny-Land), but an iffy baseball decision.

No one who plays with balls for a living deserves 20 million dollars a year.

He's still making more than the President ($400k), the average stripper ($870k), or Rush Limbaugh ($1.6m), but still doesn't match Bill Gates (waaaaay the censored up there). Is it ridiculous? IMO, anytime someone makes more than the President, it's ridiculous, any President you choose.

With the ownership situation in LA, I don't think this really makes any huge difference either way. It's not like the Dodgers were going to be big spenders in FA anyway, with how messed up their ownership is now after the divorce. So they are likely better off that Manny stayed. If he left, I don't think they'd get a bigger bat in FA this off season.

Manny took a blow to his ego this year. The off season will give him time to regroup. I'll put money on Manny coming back in the best shape of his life. He will have a monster year in 2010.

On a side note, to those complaining about how much money he makes. Get over youselves. If his job is so easy, why don't you do it for a living?

GOOD THING.   Manny Ramirez has the sweetest swing in Baseball.  He is a pure hitter, juice or no juice.  He knows he's good, he loves himself,  he's probably firing down with Lincecum,  But this guy can hit!  Look at his stats, especially postseason.  He will most certainly help the dodgers.

As long as he figures out to do whatever drug it is now that MLB isn't testing for, then yeah, he'll be in the best shape of his life.
