Mark Sanchez is having a worse statistical rookie season than JaMarcus Russell had
Here's some intriguing news for you. Mark Sanchez had a worse rookie season than JaMarcus Russell. Much worse.
Pretty interesting EPSN Insider article which is up right now about JaMarcus Russell and Mark Sanchez. Since most of you probably can't access it, it's also been summed up on Deadspin.

Vince Verhei presents the stats - JaMarcus Russell, 2008-09: 198-for-368, 2,423 yards, 13 TDs. Mark Sanchez, 2009-10: 196-for-364, 2,444 yards, 12 TDs. The difference? Sanchez threw way more picks.

From Verhei's article:

Russell started 15 games at age 23 in 2008; Sanchez started 15 games at age 23 in 2009. The biggest difference is in interceptions, where Sanchez was significantly worse, throwing 20 interceptions to Russell's eight.

Yikes. So Sanchez threw 12 more picks than Russell did his rookie season.

This doesn't necessarily mean that Sanchez will become the next JaMarcus Russell, of course, but it does seem to shed some light on the idiocy of people praising Sanchez so profusely for leading the Jets through the postseason. It's the defense and running game that have done that folks, not Sanchez.

Sanchez has made strides during the season and looks more confident / polished at this point. (kinda like Flacco did last year.) I think a better comparison could be made with a larger sample size (games played). I don't think one season says much either way.

Mark Sanchez has a great Defense and the no.1 or 2 running game. That sure didn't hurt. Mark Sanchez is not a great passer yet, But, he sure ain't the worst. In time I think he'll get much better.

But I'd say the comparison over who took the cheesiest photo among the two shown is a dead heat...

Here is the only comparison that needs to be made......Russell will be at home on the coach reading "Quarterbacking for Dummies" and Sanchez will be playing on the highest stage(for know)of his career.  Also guess what?  All he has to do is not lose the game for the JETS for example do you remember what Trent Dilfer did when he was with Baltimore when they made their run.  You can call it what you want.  Russell is not a rookie, keep in mind Sanchez IS.  Sanchez put up those numbers as a rookie..Who cares, Brett Favre has thrown more interceptions than anyone and look where he is..LOL

Even with that being said, Dirty Sanchez > Jumbo Russell

You mean a 12-23, 100 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT line isn't awesome? Since when?

I think Sanchez at his worst hurt him. You can't go out and throw 5 and 4  ints against the Bills and Pats. Add in the 2 other 3 int games it makes him look awful. With that said, 10 times out of 10 you would pick Sanchez over Russell. I think there is enough faith in his potential and you could chalk it up to too much confidence too early in his career. If he was on a tighter leash you would have seen"red light green light" earlier.

Doesn't matter how he got there, Dude got there.

1st year, starting QB in the AFC Championship Game..

How can any of you even remotely talk sh**???
Speaking in terms of the present, he is in the top 4 QB's
in the NFL. And of course he needs his teammates..  DUHHH!!!

Top 4 QBs? Um no. Final four QBs? Yes, but that really doesn't matter.  Is Braylon Edwards one of the top 4 WRs in the game? Obviously not.

Right now, there are only 4 QB's in the NFL, speaking in terms of the present.

Heres the difference.  The other 3 qbs left in the playoffs are good Sanchez is not.  He plays not to lose the others play to win.

Sanchez also has the best defense and rush game in the NFL, you can see Russell had a solid defense with their very talented secondary but the Jets D is all around better than what Russell ever had. Other than that, Sanchez doesn't have to throw the ball as much as Russell did because The Jets run game is close to unstoppable, you have 2 down hill runners in Jones and Greene, not to mention the flashback in Washington.

Right now (as in the present) there are still 32 NFL teams and they still have starting quarterbacks. Just because they aren't playing doesn't mean they fell of the face of the earth.

Sanchez plays not to lose..   And so Phillip Rivers played to win??

Look, I love the Chargers. But the scoreboard doesn't lie

No, there are not 32 teams, there are 4.
In terms of the 09-10 season, the other
28 teams have most certainly fallen off the
face of the earth. Reporters and enthusiasts
remember the great year a team or individual
may have had.
But society only remembers the Champions.

This Sunday, there are only 4 QB's to support.
The rest, for now, are dead.

I'm pretty sure there are still 32 teams in the league. Just because Sanchez is in the final 4 doesn't make him better than 28 other quarterbacks. Society remembers champions but they also remember quarterback play. You think anyone would argue that Big Ben was the best quarterback in the league during* Superbowl XL. Although Big Ben was pretty good in the playoffs the Jets in the same way win despite having to worry about the Quarterback play. The Jets have to run the ball and play good defense to be successful. Mark Sanchez hasn't proved to anyone he can win a game for them but he's proved he can not blow it so far. So no, he's not one of the top 4 quarterbacks.
