Tim Floyd's UTEP Miners play in Conference USA so they need all the wins they can get to impress the NCAA tournament selection committee. In last night's game on the road in East Carolina, Floyd's team suffered the same fate as many road teams have this season.... playing against the refs. Knowing his team was on the short end, Floyd voiced his displeasure throughout and was ultimately ejected. Before he left though, Floyd got right in the face of the ref before being restrained and led off the floor by a security officer.
I watched bits and pieces of this game and I cant really fault Floyd for his actions. UTEP was whistled for 27 fouls, 5 of them technicals, while East Carolina got slapped with 14. The Pirates used that foul disparity and hit 35-45 free throws to win 83-76, all but ending the slim chances UTEP had of getting an at-large bit in the NCAA tournament.
Conference USA officials werent impressed with Floyd's actions and have started an investigation into the matter.
