Michael Curry fired by the Detroit Pistons after one year
The Pistons choose to blame their downfall last season not on Allen Iverson, but instead head coach Michael Curry. He gets the boot after only one year.
READ MORE:
The Pistons pretty much self-destructed after trading Chauncey Billups for Allen Iverson last season, which to me, was not head coach Michael Curry's fault at all. Iverson is washed-up and a team cancer now. Also, Iverson won't be back this next season anyway.

But regardless, the Pistons didn't like what happened during the 2008-2009 season, so they canned Curry today. An odd call in my mind. I would have given him at least one year without Iverson.

As usual, it's a hell of a lot easier to can one guy than it is to can 15 guys.  The players are definitely to blame, but the guy in need of a reality check in this instance is Joe Dumars.  That A.I. for Billups deal really screwed the team up, and Darko Milicic?!  Come on now...

I cannot agree with you more my friend! Dumars is to blame for trading Billups to get A.I. Talk about screwing up your chemistry!

I totally agree.....Curry was a screwball! He should get the boot! He messed their chemistry up by always switching the line up and pulling folks that shouldve been in the game. The pistons couldve gotten alot farther in the finals if they had a different coach.

Look for Bill Laimbeer, who recently resigned with the Detroit Shock, to be the Pistons coach.
Laimbeer won 2 NBA Titles as the "Bad Boys" baddest, and led the Shock to three WNBA Titles.

The Pistons need to get back to fundamentals, and team basketball. Who better than Laimbeer for that.?

You are 100% right...Iverson is/was a cancer, and it is Dumars worst move as the Pistons VP. Curry did his best without the sole of the team, Billups.

The Pistonswill be back again...i hope, with Bill laimbeer in the mix.!!

Curry was very inexperieced @ the head coache level. There were many times last season where he had the wrong lineup in the game, Why didn't he play J. Max more?

I respectfully disagree.  We all thought that Michael Curry was going to get the Pistons back to a Finals with TEAM-oriented basketball.  But I think with the Chauncey trade freeing up cap space, Joe is realizing that the NBA is a league built on STARS not with team basketball.

Also, I think the Pistons are gonna go with Doug Collins.  He's got a good relationship with Carlos Boozer, who has been linked to the Pistons for the upcoming free agency period

First off, I know that the acquisition of Allen Iverson was definitely a bad move.  On the surface, it seems like it could have been very promising however, A.I. was up to his usual antics and completely disrupted the flow of the team.  I'm sure the players are tired of the amount of "HEART" that has been lacking since Chauncey left.  I know they all try to be positive but I know they felt so deflated after this season.  It was the worst one in quite some time.  I am anxious for my Bad Boys to be rebuilt into the championship team I know they are.  I am a true Pistons fan and I'm ready to shove all the crow in the mouths of the haters when we come back and win it all!

The people that need to be fired are the front office people.  They give up Chauncey Billups who is in the top ten players in the NBA for an old Allen Iverson who not only disrupts the team, but is a huge ball-hog.  Seriously, let's see the GM coach the team that Michael Curry had.

Sorry, I can't defend Curry. He had every opportunity to tell AI, "Dude, you're not a star anymore, you're coming off the bench," instead, he told Rip to go sit down, alienated the entire team and coddled the over-the-hill 6-foot 2-guard. Curry deserves to go.

The Pistons are apparently going to sign Ben Gordon in the off-season.  After watching Ben play defense, Laimbeer might beg the Detroit Shock to take him back.

Dumars holds a lot of the blame for trading Billups for Iverson - which would never have worked anyways.  But come on - Curry benched arguably their best player (Rip Hamilton).  That was a clear sign that he had lost control of his team and maybe the respect of his players.

Oh He-e-e-e-e-l-l-l-l-l-l No!  Laimbeer did his job as a player and had success with the Shock, but I don't see that translating to his coaching in the NBA.  While I do agree the Pistons need some changes, I don't see Laimbeer as the man for the job.

First and formost, finally Joe Dumars did a great thing in firing Michael Curry.  He wasn't ready for a coaching position, and also it was the dumbest trade in the world to trade Chauncey for Allen.  I don't agree that Allen is washed up, but he just didn't  fit into the team structure.  Allen Iverson is a one man player, and the Pistons are team players ( I hope Rodney Stuckey is listening because he is also a ball hog).  When Allen was with Philly all those years, he was the man, and as soon as he left, they had another A.I. step up and play team ball with the whole team which was Andre I.  They also made it to the playoffs without Allen.  Allen just didn't fit with the Pistons.  I'm not going to take anything away from him, because I feel that he can play, but just not with us.  Joe really f--ked up when he traded Chauncey.  But everyone beware, Joe did right by firing Michael, but expect to see a whole new team surrounded around a ball hog (Stuckey).  He is not a point guard, he is a shooting guard trying to become a point guard, but how can you become that if you never pass the ball or set up plays for the other teammates.  To answer the question about Bill being the new coach, I don't think so.  They need to find someone who is more experienced in coaching.  You see, just because you can play the game, that doesn't mean you know how to coach the game.  I would love to see a Pat Riley ( which I doubt), or someone in that capacity as the Pistons coach.  Last but not least, Joe why are you so stuck on keeping Mcdyess and letting Rasheed go, and why would you trade Amir Johnson who's only what 20 or 21 years old?  Are you crazy or what?

i think they should have given him the year without iverson. they should have given him the chance to coach a team without a cancer. plus, didn't detroit make it to the finals?

yes they did, in 8th place!!!!!!!!! barely made it, and that cancer that you talked about didn't play that many games.  First, it was a shock that Chauncey was traded in the beginning of the season after playing a few games with the Pistons.  When Billups was cleared, he started playing with Denver, Allen Iverson wasn't even here yet and Billups was already playing for Denver.  When he got here, Joe felt that everyone would get over the trade because he got over the trade when they traded Adrian Dantley when he played and he was a good friend of his, so he expected the players to overcome the trade like he did, in a short time.  In this case, you're talking about a whole team that loved Chauncey not one player(ADRIAN DANTLEY), and this was a big blow not only to the players but to the FANS.  Then Joe trys to trade Sheed in the middle of the season but it didn't work out (thank God).  So yes, either Joe was telling Curry who to play or Curry was making bad choices and he deserved to be fired.  When the switcheroo with Rip and Allen came up, it shouldn't have went down like that, start Rip as point ( because when he was out there, he had more assists that Stuckey who was suppose to be the point guard) and start Allen as shooting guard, bring Stuckey off the bench and maybe it would have worked out better, but the whole line-up was based around Stuckey and that's where Curry or whoever was running the team messed up at.  Stuckey is a BALL HOG.  I'll keep saying it until he starts playing like a point guard and passing the ball to his players.  Allen didn't make us lose all of those games.  If you want to really blame someone blame Joe Dumars.  P.S.  Curry can't coach anyway to me!
