Marcus Jordan, the son of infamous Michael Jordan, has cost the University of Central Florida a LOT of money. There was confusion about whether Adidas gave permission for Marcus to wear Nike shoes named after his dad. Evidently Adidas didn't say that he could wear Nikes and as a result have pulled funding for the athletic department. Umm...nice job Marcus. Let's hope Daddy can step up and help out.
It seems to me that their only option is if Jordan or Nike steps up. I have to think that Central Florida's jerseys will have a "Jumpman" on them soon.
I guess Marcus felt the need to wear the shoe's that afforded him the lifestyle he enjoyed. There does come a time when he need's to let the memories of his father go (as we all need to do) and come into his own. When you cost the athletic department funding from one of it's largest sponser's then you should have a plan "B". I'm sure Michael could step in and resolve the problem but the big picture is that he shouldn't have to,you would think by signing to play for UCF someone would be to checking to see if there was going to be any conflict of intrest. If the shoe sponsership was going to be that big of a deal to the Jordan family how hard would it have been to ask whose shoe's you were going to have to wear. After all Marcus is just Marcus he hasn't proven himself to be the next Michael Jordan and he shouldn't carry that kind of clout until he has proven himself, and certainly not carry that kind of clout in college.
Sounds to me like son is trying to tell daddy."Daddy.. i will never be as great as you because i have not learned to think with my head and keep my selfishness to myself"
my take on this article sound like someone was thinking about the out come. I can see where both parties are to blame and the media should leave Michael out of this. as stated in the article back in October that Adidas officals agree to allow Marcus to wear Nikes shoes. once Marcus step out on the court with a pair of nikes on, adidas back track on their words and now want to punish the whole school athletic dept by cancel their contract with the school. sound to me like a shady deal going on with adidas, since they couldn't get MJ's son to wear their shoes why not punish the school for it. What the school should have done got it in writing before Marcus took one step on the court with a pair of nikes. I think that Nike should come to the school rescue and not Michael. since marcus show strong support of nike products, okay Nike you won. Now its timee for you to step up and give the school a contract. that is my take on it.
I dont think they will have to worry to much. This is a perfect time for Nike to Step in and get some good PR..."hey addias took your funding, that is unfair, Nike will be happy to take care of you though." Atleast that is what i see happening.
I am sure they have a nice deal from Nike coming down the wire. Personally, I think it would have done wonders for his character, and becoming his own man to just wear the addidas shoes, and not say anything. It's got to be insane living under that shadow though.
Well if the school has contract with //// YOU should wear the clothes that the school has the contract with if you do not like the school colors, makers of shoes hats etc.You as a student athelete you should do your home work about before you decide to attend a college...You do not have a right to change the dress code to suit you even if you are MJ's son Jordon had to wear a chicago bull uniform like the rest of the team .So what makes you special !!!!!!!!!!!!
well if the school wanted him there and willing to bend the rules to have Marcus to come there in the firstt place. the school knew that Marcus wasn't willing to wear adidas shoes in the first place. so why put your athletic program in any finanacial trouble?
Marcus is only protecting his investment. He will probably be running MJ 's Jumpman company along with his brother before it is all said and done, and Adidas is the competition. But I agree that this is something that should have looked into before he accepted the scholarship. It's not personal it's business.
I wouldn't put it pass it, there was no highlight footage's was even shown of his playing ability. that is true in most cases that children of well know athletes can't live up (play with the same desire) to their parents level.
i"m sick of the politics with these schools and the sponsors....marcus should work on his own name and stay out of pop's shadow and think about the school...work on your own name marcus...Jordan already did, now it's your turn and adidas should give the school another chance...
chshwalker, I feel the same way up to a certain point. when a student wish to continue their education is should be personal when accepting a scholarship and not see it as business. if that the case they should be tax.....
How do all the people who plan things for MJ and his associates fail to realize that his kid is going to a school that has a deal with Adidas? Wouldn't they have had this worked out months ago?
