Michael Owen signs with Manchester United
Manchester United decides to replace Ronaldo with Michael Owen. That's just a slight downgrade.
Manchester United needed someone to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, who's now with Real Madrid, so they got themselves oft-injured Michael Owen. Um, all right.

Owen had been without a club following the expiration of his contract with Newcastle United (which got relegated this last season) and it appeared only Stoke City and Hull City were interested in offering him a contract.

But now he's with the world's most recognized club, with an incentive-laden deal. It'll be interesting to see how much he plays, and what exactly he can do.

Hey, they could have picked up Jozy Altidore.

Seriously though, Owen may not be bad since his deal is incentive laden. I think Man U needed to reevaluate their spending anyway. After all, they have AIG (government bailout) on their shirts.

In his day Owen was deadly, and he fit in well with a club like Liverpool. Unfortunately, he lost his mind and tried to fit in at Real Madrid, when Madrid was purchasing every available striker in the world. As for Newcastle...even Pele in his prime would have looked like an amateur with that team last year. It just eats talent and spits it out. I think Owen will do alright with the Red Devils. He's not Ronaldo's replacement, for sure, but he'll help the team out.

We would have had to nuke Old Trafford if they signed Jozy.

i think that as far as finding a replacement for Ronald went, man u did a pretty decent job. Owen is a fantastic striker (or was anyways, don't know how he'll preform for man u) and has a good playing history. i hope he recoveries from injuries though.

well Owen is no Ronaldo, but in one on one situations he is a better finisher then Ronaldo!
at ManU wid berba, rooney, carrick n valencia around him he can easily finish wid 20-25 goals in the season.

I think it is not at all bad for Man u as well as owen.He is out of the english team for a large duration of time.He has now got a chance to prove himself and if he did so it will also fruitful for the REDS.
It is a great gamble taken by the experienced scottish man which seems he can see the future.Rooney and Owen -a dream partner in striking force can bring "cavalry of goals".

United did not sign Owen to replace Ronaldo. Owen only get Ronaldo's #7, not Ronaldo's position in the first eleven. United has signed Owen along with Obertan because Rooney is obviously the only one that is performing well at the moment. Not Berbatov, Brandy, Manucho, Welbeck nor Macheda.
The one that was signed in order to fill in Ronaldo's shoes is Luis Antonio Valencia. An Ecuadorian winger that was signed from Wigan Athletic on June 30th, 2009.

I think Owen will be okay if he should start training with the team. Since it is Sir Alex F. who is managing the team I strongly believe he will come back as compared to when he was younger.
