Michael Phelps failed to qualify for the 100-meter freestyle and 100 backstroke finals at the at a World Cup competition in Stockholm, Sweden. He was wearing an old-style swimsuit, which will be required in upcoming events, while most of the competition was wearing the still-legal high-tech swimsuits that had helped him win 8 gold medals in Beijing.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the swimsuit wasn't the only reason his best swimming days may be behind him. Sure, the swimsuit helped, but giggle grass tends to hamper sports performance.

or.....that was really what he was missing? when you change your routine, you change everything.
Rashaan Salaam, Ricky Williams, Josh Howard, and Tim Lincecum all agree that weed makes you better
Hahahaha!! I am going to have to agree with that the players in the list have gotten better besides maybe Salaam. But in a "sport" based on your ability to control your breathe and air control, I think it was more the fact that he forgot his high-tech swimsuit after token up. If whoever is in control of regulations for swimming competitions has yet to ban the new swimsuit, Phelps just needs to follow the crowd an where the new suit until it is actually banned.
Maybe we should wait and see what happens when the suit is officially banned and everyone is back to the old-style before making a conclusion. Heck, maybe Phelps is smart for getting used to the change before it's official. He certainly can (and does, as we saw) experiment right now.

Ummm... yeah, really. I mean, if the competition is using the high tech suit and he's going old school is it really shocking that he got beat? I mean, that would be like making Tiger Woods play with golf clubs from the 1950s against the other top players using modern equipment. I wouldn't be shocked if Tiger lost in that situation, I'm not shocked that Phelps lost in this situation.
