Michael Vick signing with the New England Patriots appears to be gaining steam
Michael Vick to the Patriots appears to to be gaining steam. Is this crazy? Or could it actually work?
You've probably heard some rumors about the Patriots being a team that could sign Michael Vick. Sounds weird considering the Pats have Tom Brady, but it appears that their may be some truth to the rumors, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

The obvious question is what position would Vick play? He'd likely be used in some kind of Wildcat formation, and probably be used as a decoy too.

You're probably also wondering why the heck the Pats would take a chance on Vick. Well, the logic is that the Pats have known what it takes to win for a while now with Belichick, and they don't tolerate guys who get out of line.

Personally, I think it'd be fascinating to see Vick on the Pats, as a move as it sounds.

Actually, the Patriots are one of the teams that would actually make sense. Bear with me, for a minute...

The one thing people need to realize is that Michael Vick isn't the elite QB that people made him out to be when he was in Atlanta. He never was, and never will be. At best, he's a trick play specialist, who can be lined up as a QB, RB, out wide, or in the slot.

The reason the Patriots would be a good team is that they wouldn't depend on him. If a team brings him in with the intentions of making him a starting QB or a featured player in their offense, they will fail.

The Patriots, however, won't need to do that. They'll be able to use him sparingly, and their coaching is smart enough to use him judiciously, which is how he would be the most dangerous.

So really, I don't think this is a bad idea at all. They also need a backup QB, and while he's not a good starter, I think Michael Vick wouldn't be a bad option off the bench at all.

It would be a good move for Vick and the Patriots.  He would be another great talent added to their system and after 2 or 3 years winning (while playing wide receiver or 3rd down back), he could recapture his career.

Before coming to New England, Randy Moss was the quintessential malcontent. He has been very coachable, low key, and a team-first guy. That was a high risk-high reward move. Signing Vick is a low risk move, and if he makes any contribution it's gravy for them. I say go for it.

Randy Moss is a different type of a$$hole. M. Vick is in a scummy class of his own.

I can't believe someone would even look at that retard.  If he does play and he will he should have to pay the multi millions not get it.

I don't see it happening. The pat's have so much integrity, as evidenced by the fact that they'd never film another team's practice in order to gain a competitive advantage, or that they'd never try to steal the signals from another coach in order to gain a competitive advantage. I just don't see a team with that ultra high level of integrity signing a guy like Vick.

How they would use a player like Vick is open to debate, though I tend to agree that it'd be special situations and usually not as QB under center.

Bigger question for me is whether Patriots would take a chance on Vick and whether he'd fit in the organization.  Pats have a history of giving guys w/ mixed reputations  second chance, and sometimes w/ spectacular results... think Corey Dillon or Randy Moss.  But these guys were labeled as malcontents rather than criminals of a particularly gruesome sort like Vick.

If the pats take a "reformed" player this year I'd suspect it'd be Pacman Jones rather than Vick.  Pats secondary would get a significant boost from Pacman, whereas the offence w/ Brady back doesn't need someone like Vick as much.

Honestly, I think that Pacman is a worse criminal than Vick... and I also give Vick a little more of a pass for it, because Vick has already done time for it and paid the price, while Pacman has essentially gotten away with it.

Screw PETA. They are not bitching that the ball is made from a pig. Screw PETA. I look forward to seeing the man back on his feet and playing football.

Come on back Mike and hurry so we can rejoice and send all these retarded a$$ holes to their rooms crying and screaming that you are back. When this much fuss is raised over the killing and mistreatment of people, children in particular, then I will join in the protest over what Mike Vick did.

Mike did not molest a child or kill anyone, though, so lets get our priorities straight.

As long as Priests in particular, teachers, parents are ruining the lives of small children, by sexually abusing them all of your concerns over dead or mistreated dogs is misplaced and seems rather assinine.

SAVE THE CHILDREN FIRST.....................THEN LET'S CONSIDER THE ANIMALS.
What a twisted society.

Personally, I think child molesters should be considered for capital punishment.   I don't think Vick's crime warrants such, but I do not want it to be pushed into the shadows either.  I agree with you--screw P.E.T.A; they're actions border upon extremism.  Even so, we can't ignore one ill action because there are worse ones out there.

Whichever team he does end up playing for (the NFL or Canadian League), it will be a public relations nightmare.  We'll be hearing news on Michael Vick with all the drama of a soap opera for a long time coming.

The pats is the perfect place for vick to resume his career. its going to take a team such as the patriots with a well respected coach, front office, and  orginization to take on the media that will follow vick.No matter where he goes, the media will follow and that orginization will need to be able to handle that. The patriots is one of those few orginizations along with pittsburgh and indianapolis that can deal with the backlash.

He obviously isnt going to be a starter, so why not use him for trick plays and of course the wildcat. the wildcat is the newest fad in the nfl right now and the patriots know it first hand. miami abused the patriots with the wildcat last year and that was only the beginning.with vick not only will the pats get a QB threat that can execute the wildcat, but their defense against the wildcat will improve as they will face vick in practice.Vick was not the best QB but he could definately back up tom brady. the patriots take few snaps from under center which will benifit vick and his non prototypical QB height. The patriots turn nobodys into pretty good qbs, they can coach vick to run their offense.

There are a alot of people that dont want to see this man succeed. but as others have mentioned, he didnt kill no humans, slap no strippers, touch no kids or anything like that. people get on these sites and make their comments as if he killed humans, when there are players in the league right now that have killed a HUMAN. He didnt go to prison for killing dogs, he went for bankrolling the dogfighting ring. if he never touched a dog he would of still served the same amount of time because, it was his money, his property, and his name behind it all.i bet the same people would still be saying the same things too. I know it is wrong and i dont agree with what he did. i honestly think people dont want to see a black man go to prison and resume his career making more money than they are.if this was peyton manning or brett farve i honestly dont think the backlash would be equal.
