It's going to be a Mike Tripleheader for Monday Night Football's opening night Doubleheader. The team of Brad Nessler, Ron Jaworski and Dick Vermeil was a one-hit wonder. And while Jaworski is moving onto the main Monday Night Football team, ESPN is going in a different direction for its back-up team this year.I'm concerned ESPN is over saturating one of the best brands they posses. But then again, that's what ESPN does best. Why should I be surprised.
Lead Arena Football League broadcast team Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic will be joined in the booth by Mike Ditka for the second half of the opening week double-header game this year.
I really enjoy Mike & Mike in the morning, much to the dismay of my girlfriend. In all honesty, I've probably listened to 90% of there radio/TV telecasts over the last 6 years. Sad, but true. It's a team that clearly works, the fan angle vs the jock angle. Whether you choose to admit it or not, you can relate to either in many situation.
But can it work in the Monday Night Football booth? We know Mike Golic thinks he should be there instead of Kornheiser, and Greenberg hasn't been afraid to say he'd love to be in the booth. I never took him seriously. Mike McCarthy of USA Today says it could actually be the team that replaces the current lineup:
Despite strong ratings, ESPN's initial MNF booth of Tirico, Kornheiser and analyst Joe Theismann struggled to establish on-air chemistry last season. I wouldn't be surprised to see some or all of the Greenberg-Golic group replace the revamped No. 1 team.I'll have to wait to hear these guys in action, Ditka will be truly fascinating, but too much of the Mike & Mike brand can be a bad thing.
Would you like to see Mike & Mike ... & Mike on Monday Night Football full time?
