Pardon me for a moment, but this pisses me off and no one outside of Atlanta might know understand why.
It's no secret that the Braves are trying to bring in a couple of top notch pitchers this off season. But they are still short because Smoltz and Glavine are coming off of surgeries and might not be able to play, and Hudson will be out until July. Hampton might not be an ace, but he is a pretty cheap #4 or 5 pitcher that could hold us over until Hudson returns.
The Braves made it known that they wanted him back. They were extremely, let me reiterate, EXTREMELY patient with his injury prone body over the past 3 years. And paying him his contract with no problem and never thought of releasing him. The least he could have done was stick around for one more year and helped us out. What a dick.
Don't get me wrong. He won't win a Cy Young award next season. He might not pitch more than 10 games. But for everything Atlanta did for him, he could have pitched one more season and gave us some kind of help. He said he chose Houston so he could be closer to his kids, but his kids are in Phoenix. Not exactly a short drive. He's good friends with Oswalt and wanted to hang out with his buddy again.
Sorry about the rant. And I know most people think I'm being ridiculous about a guy that has injured every part of his body over 3 years and taken up a good chunk of our payroll. So I know it sounds stupid. But it's the freakin principal here. At a way to show the organization a little respect for paying you to be a cadaver for Dr. James Andrews for 3 years.
