Mike Krzyzewski says that he is not going to the Lakers
Put a lid on the rumor that Coach K is going to the Lakers: “I’m not going to the Lakers”

Coach K said pretty emphatically that he won't be leaving Duke and heading to LA, despite rumors that he would be the next Lakers coach.

He will never leave Duke.

If he is smart he will never leave Duke. And Coach K is smart. If he gets tired of coaching he can just become the AD like Dean Smith did, or Tom Osbourne at Neb.

Coach K probably will not or should not leave Duke but if he wants a quicker shot at a championship, he'd be wiser to join the Lakers. Duke's program has lost a bit of prestige but they are still right there every year. I might just be biased because my team is the Lakers and I would definitely not mind us hiring a good man and a proven winner as Phil Jackson's successor.

At this point in Coach K's career, it's most definitely not about money so when he says he's "not going to the Lakers," I think he means it. However, crazier things have been said and done though. Remember Nick Saban's statement, "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach." I think you all know what happened shortly thereafter. It won't happen though because no matter how much Coach K's face resembles it, he will never be the lying, sniveling weasel that Nick Saban is.

Well, we know the Lakers will get past the first round of the playoffs now.

I don't think Coach K would be crazy to leave Duke. In fact, I wish he would take on a new challenge. I think it would be good for him, because he clearly showed how much he loves coaching pro level talent when he coached Team USA, and I think he clearly showed that he can definitely handle coaching pro level talent and be very successful at it.

And frankly, I think Duke needs a shake up. Get some new blood into the program, get some excitement built. Because with Coach K, there really isn't much excitement in the sense that Duke will definitely win 20+ games, will make a good run in the ACC, will make another good run in the ACC tournament and will make the NCAA tournament. From there, a good run in the NCAA tournament is hit and miss just like it is for 99.99% of the programs in NCAA basketball.

But with a new coach? Who knows, Duke might only win 10 games, or Duke might win 30 games. With a new coach, things would be unexpected in Durham for the first time in a long time and I think that would bring excitement and some uncertainty to the program. And I think it just might be the thing that Duke needs to get some ooomph into the program.

Well, not like I expect you to keep up with my every post Pat because I know you are a busy guy , but I have been posting this take on things for quite some time in many of the other articles that have come up on this topic in the past.

I'd really like to see what Coach K can do in the NBA. He's given his all to Duke and done more for Duke than anyone could have expected. In other words, he's done his bit for king and country as far as Duke is concerned. I think now it is time for someone else to have a shot a running the Duke program, for better or worse, and Coach K should find out if he can win an NBA title to go along with the Olympics and NCAA championships.
