Mike Martz to the Bears? It Could Happen.
The Chicago Bears are in dire need of help. They have lost  three games in a row and are 1-4 in their last five. The team has had injury issues but has also underperformed on offense despite acquiring Jay Cutler this off-season.

Lovie Smith has one year left on his contract and is looking for any way to right the ship for a team that will in all likelihood miss the playoffs for the third straight season. The Sun-Times suggests he looks at former colleague Mike Martz to assume offensive coordinator duties. This is, of course, what desperate teams do, they call Mike Martz, who last ran a successful team in 2003 in St. Louis.

Smith was Martz's defensive coordinator with the Rams before leaving to assume head coaching duties with the Bears in 2004, so the men have a relationship. Is that enough to have Smith extend and offer to Martz? The Sun-Times thinks so. On the other hand, The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Mike Martz is shooting the rumor down. What are your thoughts?

This could save Lovie Smith's job after this season. I'd love to see Martz come to Chicago to be the Offensive Cordinator. I've been saying for a couple of years now that Ron Turner is terrible. Anybody to replace him would be fine with me and with Martz's experience and the Bears potental could become very dangerous.

Martz wasnt really "the greatest show on turf" coach he was in st. louis, as he faultered in san fran (it wasnt all o sullivan, his offensive scheme sucked!), so i dont expect anything out of him if he goes to chicago.

I disagree.  Martz is the "greatest show on turf" coach he was in St.Louis, provided he has the necessary pieces that can execute his offensive scheme.  In St.Louis, he had a MVP quarterback and running back, 2 All-Pro wide receivers, a 3rd and 4th receiver that could've easily been a 1 or 2 on another team, a Pro Bowl tight end and an offensive line that was one of the best in the league.  He didnt have those pieces in San Francisco or Detroit and he most definitely wont have those pieces in Chicago.

Not a good Head Coach candidate but I think he has the goods to be a great OC again. Cutler's got the arm and they have the speed and talent at WR and RB. Bringing Martz in and giving him some leeway would make Chicago an offensive powerhouse.

I doubt this will affect their game winning by more than one win either way.

I agree...Martz had some issues in his last 2 years in St. Louis (rather...the IDIOTS in the front office)-but given the right tools, he'd be successful

The Bears should bring in Martz. He'll be a much better OC, than Ron Turner. That way, Coach Lovie Smith, wont get the ax.

I have been rooting against the Bears every Sunday and usually watch them every week. Them having Ron Turner as an OC for so long has made me a very happy Viking fan because he is absolutely horrible. He doesn't have even the slightest clue how to work an offense, develop a quarterback, or even call a decent play. Rex Grossman in my opinion had a lot of potential to be a good QB and Orton was actually pretty decent, but both of them were never as good as they could of been because of Ron Turner. Bringing in Martz would probably save Lovie's job and actually have a decent offense. So me being a Viking fan, I can only hope they don't offer him a contract or he turns it down.

Exactly. What you have in Chicago is an overrated quarterback, a good running back, a collection of #3 receivers, two good tight ends, and an offensive line that even I could get a sack off of. Martz has put himself in some bad situations since he's been away from St. Louis. This is yet another bad situation.

I dunno... he didn't do much with Vernon Davis in SF and look at what (in my opinion) a horrible OC is doing with Vernon Davis now. There were weapons in SF when Martz was there, he just didn't make the most he could have with them.

This team has huge problems across the board, so this would be an unnecessary "band-aid," and I'm not one of those people who believes Martz is a genius either.

I really like Martz.  I wish that he could of stayed in Detroit.
