Average to below average. Bad play calls, ill advised time outs to yell at the team that lead to opposing TD's, complete ineptness in the kick return game, putting in an 80 million dollar player to return kicks and getting him hurt.... mix that in with 3 wins against poor NFC west teams and I think that shakes out to about a C or C-.
Singletary is hands down the best coach the 49ers have had since Seifert
Well, yeah. But how hard is that? You just have to be better than Mariucci to earn that distinction. I like Mike, I think he was the right choice at the time. But with a guy like Holmgren out there.... Mike better get some wins quick. If he goes 7-9 this year (or worse) you can bet the niners will be looking at some of the talent out there like Cowher, Shanhan and especially Holmgren.

Great that you are a 9er Fan. Give Mike some more loving...

I'd love too.. but I just can't give love when the kick return game has been botched so badly that it directly led to one loss and contributed heavily to two other losses... and it directly led to our 80 million dollar, best cover corner getting a broken shoulder blade.
I love the niners, but the NFL stands for "Not For Long" as Jerry Glanville once pointed out. Mike has to win now, this year, or patience is going to run very thin in SF.

Brilliant, hard nosed, winner. Coaches like he played. He has taken basically the same team Mike Nolan had and made them competitive, very well could WIN the Division... great leader of men.

Mike is a rookie head coach with obvious strengths; however, at times, he reminds the keen observer, he is still just a rookie head coach. I would give him a strong upside C+.
I wish we had hime in Tampa right now. He is tough and no nonsense. He will build a winner. If they had fewer OL injuries they would have a better record. When you try to run the ball and play defense your OL has to be great

I would give Mike Singletary a "B"... he has made the team competitive despite it's 3-5 record... the 49ers should have beaten Minnesota on the road and could have beaten Indy and Houston with a little luck... they offer a complete different skill set with basically the same players. Again, they are now competitive, in need of a Quarterback and a pass rush, some OL as well. It's interesting how successful Mike Nolan is as a Defensive Coordinator (NY GIants, Baltimore and now Denver) but how lost he was as a Head Coach. Singletary is a huge improvement over Nolan and Erickson.

Even after this most recent loss you'd still give him a B? I can't do it. To me it seems like the season is getting worse and worse as the other coordinators and coaches build up film on the SF tendencies. SF got the jump and got off those three wins but now the league knows they are doing the same *exact* stuff on offenses and defense every week and that is why the niners are getting beat to the punch more often than not.
They've got to find a way to innovate and put in some wrinkles or else they are gonna lose 10 games.
