Milwaukee Mile in Even Deeper Trouble Than Originally Thought
READ MORE:
The future of the Milwaukee Mile was already in doubt when it came out that the track owes both the IRL and NASCAR their 2009 sanctioning fees. The future looks even bleaker after what Furious Wedge has uncovered (thanks to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) evidence suggesting the impending death of the Mile, the oldest operated racetrack in the country, was planned.

Just a crappy situtation all around, and definitely not how this great track deserves to go out.

Very disappointing.  I only saw one race at the track, but I always enjoyed watching the races there.  I'll miss being able to hear the cars test there from campus (which was literally only a few blocks away from the track).

Hey, you're the one with an in to the state government. Use those interning lobbying powers.

Yeah... that was supposed to be a funny, not a bold.

I just can't believe they would leave the track die.  I wrote an email to gov. Doyle to help save the track and have not received any response.  I have attended races their since I was a kid.  I saw A.J. Foyt win several times during State Fair week.  I currently have seats for both the Nascar and Indy races.

Unfortunately, I had a feeling when they built the track in Chicago that this day would come.  In the old days we would draw a ton of people from Ill. Chicago out did us on this one and I would hate to have to go pay tolls just to see a race.

With all the money they throw around in Madison, I can't believe Doyle won't pay INDY and Nascar to save a jewel.  I bet if the track was in Madison, it would already be taken care of.

Considering people were complaing about things like spending money to save teacher's jobs or replace old worn down school buses, I don't want to know how angry people would've been if the budget put money towards saving the race track even if it deserves it.
