Blog Photo - NASCAR Geico 400 at Chicagoland [Live Race Thread]It has been awhile since we've had a live thread, but activity on the track and on our site indicates that it just might be time to bring one back.  Yes, I know there is football on, both CFL and NFL (I'm Canadian, what can I say?) but we can flip channels.

The first race of the Chase gets underway today at Chicagoland, and would you look at that....Jimmie Johnson is on the pole.  It seems Mr. Johnson is digging in his heels to win title number 6.  Tony Stewart dominated and won 5 of the Chase races last year, en route to his third title, and it seems Jimmie would like to duplicate that performance.  In his way are all those drivers who don't want to see Jimmie win a sixth, and Denny Hamlin is likely the most determined of them all.

Denny has been dominant a few times now, in the Chase, and has just missed the Championship, always to Jimmie Johnson.  Carl Edwards, of course, was Tony's closest competition last year, but this year he doesn't even appear in the Chase names.  His teammates, Greg Biffle and the departing Matt Kenseth. are both in the Chase, and both have a great chance to win it all.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. qualified fourth for today's race, but will start from the back of the pack, due to an engine change.  Hendrick has had more engine woes lately than probably ever in their tenure, but an engine change may be just the ticket for Jr.

I'm heading for home with the trailer, so I'll miss the green flag and probably the first few laps, but jump in and share your reactions and picks, and I'll catch up.

Let's go racing, boys!
