NASCAR Notables skip Hall of Fame opening

The pictures in this article are courtesy of an old friend, 18packabs.  He attended the opening of the NASCAR Hall of Fame and took a ton of pictures, which he then shared with me.

Unfortunately, an occasion that many of us would give our eye teeth to attend wasn't deemed important enough for some of NASCAR's current stars.  Jeff Gordon had a prior commitment.  Jimmie Johnson was enjoying some time with his wife before the birth of their first child, and Dale Earnhardt Jr had a scheduling mix up.  Tony Stewart was testing with his team.

Now, I'm sorry, but this was something NASCAR fans have been waiting for for years. Yes, there was already a Racing Hall of Fame, but this is NASCAR's Hall of Fame.  Yes, NASCAR's own!

When I say NASCAR fans would give their eye teeth to attend the opening, I don't think I'm exaggerating.  It's a day for all of us to honor the people who made NASCAR what it is today.

This isn't the time to take a day off to go to the beach.
