NASCAR plants trees in efforts to reduce carbon footprint
The NASCAR folks are planting trees... so their negative effects on the environment can be slightly less enormous.
READ MORE:
Wrecks like the one in the picture take a huge toll on the air around the tracks, in the stands and in the pits.  NASCAR has announced they will plant trees around the tracks in an effort to reduce, and eventually eliminate, the effect of the emissions caused by racing.

This year 11 tracks will participate with all tracks participating next year.

NASCAR says it's all about reducing their Carbon Footprint.  Kudos to them.

How cute, NASCAR's pretending to care about the environment.

AWww Gee Eric, really they are just following in the footsteps of the IRL, but in a little different way.  They're just doing it  with trees instead of fuel.

Not the only time they've followed IndyCar with something. I wonder if they'll claim they thought of it first like they always do.

I guess it's nice of them to plant a couple trees, since they completely waste thousands of gallons of fossil fuels every week.

My sincere apologies to Eric (gearhead) - I meant no disrespect  or insult at all with my comment "he's just an IRL fan" as I am an IRL fan too, just not as avid.  My experience is you cannot be a fan of both types of racing without being called a non-fan of one or the other.

Ok this all sounds nice but if we do the math:
a cup car averages about 5mpg
in a 500 mile race that comes out to 500lbs of co2 per car
if all 43 cars was to run all of the laps that would be 21500lbs of co2 per race
an average tree will remove around a ton of co2 in 100 years
so thats 20lbs of co2 removed per tree per year
therefor to remove the co2 produced in one race they will have to plant 1075 trees
now if a track has 2 races a year you would have to double that...........................

so as I said at the beginning it sounds nice but unless they are going to turn all the infields into forests thats all it is is good intentions.
