NBA changes rule on traveling to exactly what it was before.

Gee, thanks for clearing that up guys.  I was really confused.  This handy video tells me nothing.

I've got some other ambiguous "unwritten rules" you might want to make written while you're at it.

How about you clear up the whole charge vs. blocking fiasco.  Is he right?  or is he just dead wrong?

Do the rules even exist in the final minute?

Also, exactly which words, phrases or gestures will get you a technical foul?  Does it have to involve a ref?

I won't even get started on the different between a flagrant foul and a hard foul.

I'd like some clarification on this stuff, since we all know it's subjective from game to game depending on how big the viewing audience is.

Kobe, Bron and D-Wade will now be allowed 4.5 steps and Shaq has been allotted 5 steps.

They might as well just put an asterisk by everything in the damned rule book that says "*This rule sometimes exists".  How long before everyone just takes 3 or 4 steps without ever getting called?

Seriously though, your comment... "How about clear up that whole charge vs. blocking fiasco while your at it?" was just classic. The NBA does have some other issues to clean up first.

I love NBA basketball.  But if you're going to clear up a rule that was already pretty damn clear (who reads the rule book?), you might as well clarify the rules that aren't so black and white.

Its a shame NBA officiating is so bad (and will be even worse this year) because the talent in the league right now is nothing short of amazing.  The NBA is as good as its been since the 80's and as good as it ever was before then.

I don't think the officiating can get any worse.  I hardly think scabs and replacements will do a worse job - hell, they'll probably do a better job, but people will complain because the prior refs did such a crap job and twisted the rule book like a pretzel.

All sports need a new crop of officials.  Too many officials in too many leagues have gotten complacent.

I haven't had the opportunity to see any of the pre-season games, but from everything I've read and heard the replacements refs aren't just a little worse, they are much worse.  I agree new refs are necessary, but you can't shock the system the way its been done with these replacement refs.  Basketball at its highest level is always going to be difficult to call.

Post players will now be allowed to do an Irish Jig in the middle of the lane if they like.. I think that should be a rule, it isnt to far off and how they call traveling on the big men these days.

I've really never been bothered with how games are called, I think it makes the games better in a lot of cases. If you called every single foul, more than half the players would foul out of every game. When I watch, I wanna see the stars make great plays so I'm fine with how the NBA does it.

But with these replacement refs... ugggghhhhh.... they are making the game ugly.

The NBA probably made this change because the ref strike. They're worried that real refs will call players for traveling.
