NBA replacement refs call 75 fouls in Rockets versus Celtics game
So how are those replacement NBA refs doing? Um, not well, judging by last night's Rockets/Celtics game.
During last night's Rockets/Celtics game - handled by scab refs - a ridiculous 75 fouls were called, resulting in 102 free throws. I'm not great with math, but that's like a foul every half a nano-second.

This may be the most amazing stat though of the whole game. Only one guy actually fouled out of the game, Joey Dorsey of the Rockets.

Now, granted this is the preseason, and scab refs need some time to get up to speed. But seriously, if this is the way things are going to go in the regular season, then count me out for watching any of it.

NBA games were way too short anyways.

The veteran refs already ran the NBA into the ground. The replacements took one step further; running the NBA even LOWER!

The only way to ruin one heck of an off-season in terms of player movement and the draft.... .... ....

exactly. So... should we expect an occasional game with 100 free throws, and scores of 150? One thing is certain, these new refs might help cause some game to break the scoring record. Watch out! 186-184 is in serious jeopardy!

It's about time the refs wore glasses! Look at the difference!

I try not to watch any NBA regular season games anyway, unless I'm watching in person.

Does anyone think that maybe the refs were calling actual fouls, that the old refs were letting slide,  Maybe the players have had it to easy getting away with to much? lol

My money is on Stern caving two weeks into the season.  Like them or not, NBA refs have many years of professional rapport and trust (other than Joey Crawford-Tim Duncan) built with notoriously egomaniacal NBA players.  Regardless of whether the new refs can match the talent level of the hold-outs, this is still a disaster waiting to happen...  But it should keep the first couple weeks interesting

I watched the CAVS preseason game and one ref made all the calls the other two just stood around. Every once iwhile there were totally out of position. This is going to be a train wreck.

I'll give these refs a mulligan (a game in Dallas had 90 some free throws also). These guys are new and still trying to figure things out, and that is what the preseason is for. Now if opening night in Cleveland and LA has around 100 free throws each, then yes we have a problem.

Did they call "Palming"?

Cause all these guys carry the ball with them all over the court!

To be honest, that picture is still ok. The entire bottom of the ball is exposed. Its more vertical. If his hand was more under the ball, it would definitely be palming. But besides that, those new refs need a lot of practice.

I hope David Stern can fix this.  We need to get rid of the incompetent (scab) refs, so that the corrupt refs can have their jobs back.

Well tell the players to learn the rules that the new officails play by!

I agree with the fact the the old regular refs do not call many fouls that are obvious and easy to call.  These new refs need more practice but most of there calls were somewhat okay.  I did watch some of the Rockets/Celtics game, i emphasize some because it there were too many fouls being called.  The players need to play more.

There's no such thing as traveling, or palming the ball, and every time a guy drives the lane or attempts a put back you call a foul..  And charging is only called on guys that average under 10 points a game. how hard is that?

Was anyone here at the game? What was the crowd reaction?

You carry the ball too, huh?

? um... its natural to dribble more with your hand vertically for better control and to make it more easier to change direction of your dribble when you are in motion. Carrying is self explanitory. The majority of the ball is above your palm. His hand is vertical to the ball. Not in his palm.

It's also easier if you don't dribble the ball at all and have no skill. You not supposed to have any part of your hand under the top half of the ball. I understand why the refs never call it, it would slow the game down tremendously, but whatever.

The old refs always let the stars get away with way too much, but the replacements are calling the game for real.  I mean watch a Cavs game from last year.  There were way too many uncalled fouls on Lebron.  These new refs aren't taking any crap.
