Another of the Fearsome Foursome has fallen. The gentle giant of a man who made a name for himself at Utah State. Winning an Outland Trophy and named All-American. He then went from being a  was one of the cornerstones of the great Rams defenses of the 60's and 70's. Sadly the Rams never got a championship during the reign of the Foursome, but it was not through a lack of trying on their part. Sadly I did not get to see much of Merlin play as kid. I caught the very tail end of his career. For me my most vivid memories are of him in the booth with either Charlie Jones or Dick Enberg call the late AFC games on Sundays. That was a good chunk of my childhood.

As well all know that Merlin also dabbled in acting and as a pitch man for FTD. The odd ball I am also remembers him doing a series on PBS, with one of his broadcasting partners Charlie Jones, called "The American Frontier".

So we bid a sad farewell to this NFL great.
