NFL running backs fly under the radar in high school and college

The Big Lead takes a fascinating look at some of the top RB's in the league, and how many of them were relatively unknown coming out of high school. There's players like this at every position, but for some reason, it seems like there are more RB's than anything else, who come out of nowhere and dominate in the NFL.

Why do you think this happens? Personally, I think part of it is the short shelf life of running backs. Nothing against smaller programs, but I think that guys like Chris Johnson take less of a beating than guys who play in major conferences against top defenses. And of course, many times scouts just miss on guys. We see that happen all the time. Either way, it's a fascinating read. Check it out.
