NFL says flag should have been thrown for low hit on Brett Favre in the 3rd quarter of NFC Championship

Remember that play in the 3rd quarter of the NFC Championship game when Favre got decked from both above and below by two Saints players as he threw an INT? Well, the top heavy hit was fine, but that low hit - which caused Favre to limp around the rest of the game - was illegal according to NFL rules. But it didn't get called.

Well, yesterday Mike Pereira, the NFL's vice president of officiating, admitted that the hit delivered by Bobby McCray should have been a 15-yard penalty. Which means that INT wouldn't have counted, which means the Vikings could have kept that drive going, and.....whatever, Adrian Peterson would have fumbled anyway.

But the game could have turned out differently if that play had been called correctly. Glad the NFL waited a week to let everyone know that.
