NFL to investigate teams resting their starters

In possibly the stupidest story of the year, the NFL is actually going to look into teams resting their starters - like the Colts did last week. They're doing this because of the fan reaction to the Curtis Painter Experience that made Colts fans so happy.

Now look, I personally think the Colts should have tried for 16-0, but the idea of the NFL looking into teams resting their starters is the lamest, stupidest, most asinine thing ever.

Once you've clinched for the playoffs, it's your right to do whatever the hell you want. If you want to sit your best players, that's your right. If you want to screw up the entire AFC playoff picture, that's your right. If you want to throw a game (like the Patriots and Bengals probably will this Sunday to keep the Steelers out of the playoffs) because you've already clinched, you've earned that right. (And if you're a Steelers fan, you should have beaten the Chiefs, Raiders or Browns).

I realize that the NFL would like every single game to be hyper-competitive all season long, but let's be realistic. What on earth do certain teams have to gain by playing their best guys when they've already clinched? Unless they're gunning for a 16-0 season, the answer is nothing. Plus, is there something wrong with a team that's clinched influencing a playoff race? Not at all. They've done their job, if you'd done yours you wouldn't be in a position to get screwed.

Seriously, NFL. Lay off this now. You just look stupid.
