NHL Thursday Night Live Thread
We start in the NYC area where all 3 teams are in action tonight. First up is the high-powered Bolts (no pun intended) who will look to rebound after getting stymied in Philly. It doesn't get any easier against the Devils who have only one loss in regulation. This promises to be an entertaining game though!
Tampa Bay Lightning @ New Jersey Devils - 7:00 PM ET - SUN, MSG+
Next we're headed right across the river from Newark into Manhattan where MSG showcases the other 2 New York area teams, the Isles at the Rangers. Both teams have been inconsistent out of the gate, but don't sleep on the Isles, they are looking much better this year. The Rangers seem to be a bit out of it without their captain. This isn't your older bro's Isles/Rangers game!
New York Islanders @ New York Rangers - 7:00 PM ET - MSG+2, MSG
Our next stop is the capital city of Ohio where the Jackets play host to the Flames, 2 teams that have struggled to start the year, 5 wins between them. I'm not sure what to make of this one, is our favorite Calgary/NASCAR girl Debi around to shed more light on this game?
Calgary Flames @ Columbus Blue Jackets - 7:00 PM ET - RSN West, FSN Ohio
We have to head back east for our next game as the Panthers travel to Philly. The Broad Street Bullies are going to be the subject of a new Rob Zombie movie, I'm gonna want to see that! For now the Panthers have one win on the road, and conversely opening day against the Pens is the only home loss the Flyers have. Will the trend continue tonight?
Florida Panthers @ Philadelphia Flyers - 7:00 PM ET - FSN Florida, CSN Philadelphia
Next on tap is the Sabres who play host to Les Habitants. The Habs lost a hard-fought battle on home ice last night to the Bruins. These teams have opposite records, 6-3 for the Habs, 3-6-1 for the Sabres. The Habs murdered the Sabres less than a week ago, can they do it again on the road?
Montreal Canadiens @ Buffalo Sabres - 7:00 PM ET - RDS, MSG
Next we're off to Pittsburgh for what the media is going to pump up as the game of the night, it's Crosby and Ovechkin again...wait WHAT?! That's right, it's Pens and Caps for the second time in less than a week. It was the Chris Kunitz show on NBC this past Sunday as the Caps continue to struggle mightily, 2 wins is it, and their 5 points is worst in the league. Meanwhile the Pens have won 4 in a row and have taken over the top spot in the Atlantic Division. Can the Caps find themselves, or will this go on for at least one more night? For all of you outside of The Burgh and DC, this one's on NHL Network for your viewing pleasure.
Washington Capitals @ Pittsburgh Penguins - 7:00 PM ET - Root Pittsburgh, CSN Mid-Atlantic, NHL Network
We have a half hour to get to our next game north of the border. The Sens are at home against the Canes. Carolina is .500 while the Sens have yet to lose in regulation on home ice (4-0-1). Ottawa is the favorite in this game I would think, but never underestimate the Canes as long as Cam Ward is between the pipes. Can he hold off the high-flying Sens?
Carolina Hurricanes @ Ottawa Senators - 7:30 PM ET - FSN Carolina, RSN East
We stay in Canada for 2 Canadian teams in our next matchup, the first of four 8:00 games. The Jets play host to the Leafs in Winnipeg. The Leafs have only one loss on the road. The Jets have only one loss at home...something's gotta give in this one! If I were a betting man (and I'm not), I'd go with Winnipeg at home in this one, but we shall see.
Toronto Maple Leafs @ Winnipeg Jets - 8:00 PM ET - LTV, TSN
We don't have to go too far for our next stop. We're headed back into the US for the last of tonight's games, starting with a stop in the Twin Cities and a battle between the Wild and Canucks. The Canucks are 2-1-1 on the road and the Wild are 4-1-0 on home ice. Like the game directly above in Winnipeg, something's gotta give! Which team gets the 2 points in this one?
Vancouver Canucks @ Minnesota Wild - 8:00 PM ET - RSN Pacific, FSN North
The defending champs are on the road, headed from Hollywood into Music City USA. The Kings haven't exactly lit the world on fire, but they're still the champs. The Preds have only played 2 home games, and both were overtime losses. Can the Preds dethrone the Kings and win on home ice tonight, or will the visitors keep the home squad squandering in Nashville?
Los Angeles Kings @ Nashville Predators - 8:00 PM ET - FSN West, FSN Tennessee
The gateway city is our next stop where the Blues host the Wings. The Blues have one home loss and the Wings have only one road win...is this real?! Have the Wings finally gotten too old? Has the rest of the division passed them by? It's not panic time yet, but Detroit fans may want to be holding their hand just above the button. They beat the Blues once, they need to do it again to stay afloat because right now they're treading water while the Blues and Hawks are pulling away.
Detroit Red Wings @ St. Louis Blues - 8:00 PM ET - FSN Detroit, FSN Midwest
Our night cap is out in the desert where the Coyotes will try to do something nobody has been able to do as of yet, and that's beat the Hawks in regulation. They have 2 shootout losses and 18 points to lead the league. The Coyotes are 4-2-1 at home, do they have what it takes to stop the Hawks? This is gonna be one great game to finish off the night!
Chicago Blackhawks @ Phoenix Coyotes - 9:00 PM ET - CSN Chicago, FSN Arizona
This is your official live thread to talk (or bitch) about the game(s) you're watching tonight. Talk it up, join in the fun, and let's get this party started!
